Returning the Unemployed to Work: Adding Online Education to Unemployment Insurance
I found this article and wanted to share it. Not helping people unemployed by provided re-training or additional education makes no sense to me. At the end of the person's unemployment allotment, they are left in worse shape than when they lost job.

Re: Returning the Unemployed to Work: Adding Online Education to Unemployment Insurance
Sparky, no knock on you. Thanks for sharing, but the republicans/conservatives have been fighting the unemployed every step of the way, calling them lazy, alcoholics, and drug addicts. They've voted against nearly every unemployment extension. That's why they were nicknamed "The Party Of No".
So, I guess the author James Sherk (Sherk??) is saying that unemployed Americans shirk their responsibility to upgrade their skills in an economy that is producing few if any good-paying jobs. Perhaps he feels that once people retrain themselves, these jobs will magically appear and companies will gobble these people up. In my opinion, he's putting the cart before the horse.
Perhaps there's training on the web for flipping burgers, cutting cold cuts, scrubbing floors, or picking lettuce. Those courses would (or should) be free, and there's pleanty of openings now for jobs like that after you complete your training.

What type of goats fly out of O'Hare? It probably only requires little experience in flocking

Guess it's back to the online training that makes one hell of a lot of sense - if it can be obtained - and why not????

Well, if it's free, you have nothing to lose but time. But if there's no jobs after you finished, then you got what you paid for. However, if you paid for it and weren't able to land a job, then you got scammed!
I'd be all for it Sparky if I knew there was a job for me after I finished, however with an unemployment/underemployment rate at almost 14%, this is highly unlikely.

Not mention employers look at you funny--if they look at you at all--when you've been unemployed more than 6 mos. For me its going on six years.
I applied for a job recently, didn't send any resume because of the previous experience of sending them out and not hearing anything, not even a rejection and thought most jobs were scams. Well, the person responded and requested a resume which I sent and guess what, no response. Why am I not surprised.
