A Letter
Dear Sir or Madame,
I know that this E-mail is misdirected, however I do not have a dependable
phone. I am seeking assistance in finding services which might could assist me. I'm 56 years old, I'm unemployed and on the verge of homelessness.
I am receiving food stamps and earn on average less than $100 per month in cash.
I began working at 12 years old and worked for 26 years without missing a
paycheck. I owned a fine home, drove new cars and lived the American dream. In 2008, my business collapsed and I lost everything. Unable to pay the remaining two years of my child support the state of Georgia suspended my driver's license. Because of this, the only ID I carry is a birth certificate. I cannot get my Social security card replaced because I need a photo ID. I'm 56 years old and in the worst economic climate in 70 years the state has made me virtually unemployable. Under the current circumstances it is impossible and for an employer criminal to employ me.
I have never been arrested in those 56 years and now I'm treated no better than a criminal. Govern-mentally ostracized and it seems that all of the programs offered are for families, veterans, or children which is fine, but, what about me, the ordinary guy?
If you could just forward this to the appropriate, if any, department I would be appreciative.

Re: A Letter
Daveparts, your letter expresses what we all feel almost daily. I would start with the Dept of HHS, your state Dept. of Social Services, Mayors office, County clerk's office and the Governor's office. If your county has a special program for the unemployed/social services, put it out to them. If you tell me what State I will see what I can find out.
By the way, somehow this topic was posted twice, I only deleted the second one.

Re: A Letter
Great letter, Dave. Who are your US Senators and your Congressman/woman? Send that letter to their offices, both Washington and their home constituent office. Send a copy to their Case Aides, who work with constituents on issues like ours. You can find their addresses by using our OpenCongress link on the top right side of our home page. Send it to the local media outlets in your area and to your newspaper as a Letter to the Editor. People need to be aware and your letter says it all!

These things aren't accidents
This letter was sent to my state head of HHS, I apologized for sending it to him but it was the only E-mail address listed. I no longer have any faith in Republicans or Democrats. The system is broken just as it was broken in 1929, only this time around there is no FDR. This time we get Herbert Hoover, a moderate Republican President who believes the road to prosperity begins with corporate tax cuts.
The goal posts have been moved so radically, that a moderate right wing President such as Obama is further to the right than either Richard Nixon or Ronald Reagan and yet the mob screams "Socialist." Obama's healthcare reform is based on Richard Nixon's health care reform, privatizing a system flush with public money, leaving private corporations in charge of billions of tax dollars.
Barack Obama has proposed three times as many tax cuts in his first term than Ronald Reagan. Our offensive defense Military position hasn't changed one Iota from Bush to Obama. The defense budget has risen every year while aid to cities and states decline.
Come January, sequestration will prompt cuts of billions of dollars in social aid, aid for communities and for education. The President and the Congress will lament these cuts while each blame the other. Behind the scenes they will smile counting their no holds barred campaign contributions allowed by "Citizens United."
“When we are in partnership and have stopped clutching each other's throats, when we have stopped enslaving each other, we will stand together, hands clasped, and be friends. we will be comrades, we will be brothers, and we will begin the march to the grandest civilization the human race has ever known.” - Eugene Victor Debs

Re: A Letter
Daveparts, you will have to let us know, please, if you get any response at all. Thanks for taking the time to advocate on behalf of all the unemployed.

Re: A Letter
So far, nothing but it took the state of Georgia six weeks to answer. I honestly fear they have nothing to say.

Re: A Letter
I took my story to our local newspaper...and I haven't heard a thing. I did not enter it in the "Letters to the Editor" section, since I did not want to brand myself anymore than I am, at the age of 59. I also sent it to our State Rep, who did respond indirectly by her secretary, expressing her sympathy to my situation...but as yet have not heard anything concrete that might change anything. I really think Television is where we have to start sending our frustrations too.

Re: A Letter
Television might be a good avenue, but how do we get on Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight? The evening news will occassionally devote 30 seconds. Or, we could stand in the lettuce that we are going to serve people and post it on the internet. Oh wait, we're not stupid enough to get that job in the first place.

Re: A Letter
Looks like a good letter. Are you sending it to a Congressman?
Why is child support so high and beyond the ability to men to pay? I know there are deadbeats who have jobs and money and refuse to help the kids, but they are PUNISHING men for being POOR and this is INJUST.

Re: A Letter
I know some of the states have signed "deals" between each other but I would research this. Where could you go and get the drivers license with just proof of residency?
Your only option may be to move and start over for your own survival, a place where you can get the needed ID for a job.
Then save money and pay off the debt from afar.

It has now been almost a month since I sent this letter to the director of HHS. No reply, I suspect that they're deluged with letters like mine and simply have no answers.

Re: A Letter
No answers. I wonder what was the total amount of bonuses received for not having any answers? We have been caught in a flood and our government has not even considered throwing us a lifejacket. This situation is much more serious than receiving temporary unemployment benefits.

You probably should move.
I doubt you will get an answer.
Sorry to hear it...

You probably should move. Make sure the new state has no deal with GA which by the way is one of the worse police state tyrannnical ones out there. Tell them you had your wallet stolen and proceed from there.
I doubt you will get an answer.
Sorry to hear it...
