Romney: I'll get unemployment down to 6%
http://economy.money.cnn.com/2012/05/23/romney-ill-get-unemployment-down-to-6/?iid=HP_LNFirst, a little background on how all this works: The unemployment rate measures the percent of the labor force that is unemployed.
The unemployed are individuals who have actively looked for work over the previous four weeks. Looking for work can mean having a job interview, sending out resumes, or even something as simple as calling friends or relatives in hopes of finding a job.
The number of unemployed is then divided by the total labor force. The resulting number is the unemployment rate -- which is currently 8.1%.
Right now, the portion of the working-age population participating in the job market -- the labor force participation rate -- is at its lowest level since 1981: 63.6%.
So if Romney is promising 6% by the end of his first term, how many jobs per month would that mean?
http://www.frbatlanta.org/chcs/calculator/index.cfmThe Atlanta Fed has a handy calculator to help with this. Assuming the labor force participation rate holds at 63.6%, the economy would only need to add 155,339 jobs per month for the unemployment rate to drop to 6% by 2016.

Re: Romney: I'll get unemployment down to 6%
Well, for one thing, they would actually have to admit how high the unemployment rate is, which means they would actually have to count all those whose benefits expired two years ago and those who have continued to expire since. Real unemployment is more like 18.1% not 8%, so he will need to do alot of work to get it to 6%. Not to mention, he says alot of things, but never says how he will do it.

Hey Romney, why don't you tell Boehner - or do you just love to watch people suffer. A comment like this out of this useless piece of filth should infuriate. If you know how to fix the economy why aren't you doing it unless it's only the "free market" that you care about and not the country?Romney: I'll get unemployment down to 6%
I'm starting a list of conservative "values." These people make me want to vomit.

Lmao! The one good thing about Romney is he always makes me laugh!!!
He is such a text book politician, will say ANYTHING to get himself elected but very rarely follows through. He did a real bang up job as governor of my state, let me tell ya!

Thanks Romney
The unemployment rate in the United States was last reported at 8.1 percent in April of 2012. Historically, from 1948 until 2012, the United States Unemployment Rate averaged 5.7800 Percent reaching an all time high of 10.8000 Percent in November of 1982 and a record low of 2.5000 Percent in May of 1953. The unemployment rate can be defined as the number of people actively looking for a job as a percentage of the labour force.

8.1% is a LIE!! It will be very interesting to see how much more it will go down before election time with all the upcoming layoffs at the USPS, HP, Yahoo, etc.emmafobang wrote:Thanks Romney

Re: Romney: I'll get unemployment down to 6%
Since the real unemployment rate is now being tossed about as 18% it's unrealistic to think he can get anywhere near that in his first term. Far too many variables and soon, when UC is cut to the bone, people will be screaming. Sadly, that's probably what it will take to get all the unemployed fired up enough to really help us make a difference. When bills go unpaid, more homes foreclose, state aid skyrockets and taxes (revenue) falls to a new all time low, maybe "they" will listen. Until then, those of us screaming will just have to scream even louder!!

Re: Romney: I'll get unemployment down to 6%
I have been a long time member of several Facebook unemployment pages for several years. Now, with all the cuts starting with EUC, people are coming out of the woodwork. Several old-timers like myself have told these people the hell we have been going through for over 4 years, over 2 without benefits and the disappointments we have faced over the years.
They are starting petitions, making YouTube videos, doing all the things we have already done that fell on deaf ears. Instead of adding 14 weeks of benefits, they are now starting a phase out.
I blame both parties for what is happening in this country and I blame the people who are now crying for their benefits. Where were they? Back in 2008, 2009, 2010 (when I ran out of benefits), they were silent because they were still employed! Another thing that I have noticed about these new groups coming up are that they don't have a focus. Congress is NOT going to extend unemployment again. It is over, done, and we have to work together to come up with a new strategy to advocate for bringing jobs back to the US, keeping Obamacare in tact, no cuts to SS and Medicare, etc.
It is deja vu on these sites. Infighting and groups splintering off. That is going to do nothing. When will people realize that the only way to accomplish anything is to put our partisan and personal ideas aside and work TOGETHER to find solutions to what is happening in this country. It is only going to get worse as more and more people lose benefits. We are a supply & demand economy that won't survive without the income that millions will lose by the end of the year.
I saw a picture on "Being Liberal's" site that showed if every 99er held hands, the line would stretch from San Diego to Maine. I would think that many people would be a major factor in any political policy.
Let's all work together and share awareness of the plight of the unemployed. Seriously, people have NO clue unless they are unemployed themselves. The sooner we put personal differences aside and work towards a common goal, the better off we will be.

Re: Romney: I'll get unemployment down to 6%
I echo what DIRI has said. We are not going to promote the idea that anything is going to change the course of extended benefits being fazed out this year.
The reality is that this is a hard pill to swallow but it is indeed REALITY.
We must continue to support each other on this site as some lives will face more sorrow and some will be bettered through employment.
Jobs are coming around slowly. Everyone who is out of work must make their 40+ workweek filled with re-training, job searches and posting to have the best chance at achieving success.
