Congress is Broken; How do we fix it?
Congress is broken. So, what do we do to fix that?
So, what do you think needs to be done to fix the problem with Congress?
- Job Creation hasn't been addressed by the 112th Congress, despite Republicans promise that they would address it once they were sworn in as the majority.
- Unemployment extensions continue to languish for the longer term unemployed.
- Congress has decided to work as little as possible with slightly more than 100 working days for the 2011 calendar year.
So, what do you think needs to be done to fix the problem with Congress?

Maybe it's time that working class citizens unite and rally for a HUGE (peaceful) marches in Washington and every state capital across the country demanding action on jobs and unemployment with the promise to each political leader that their jobs are on the line and they will be voted out if they continue to stonewall. On the other hand maybe I'm just dreaming....

Its like how much effort, time and money do you put into an old car before you just replace it? Same principle here. Not as easy of course but the current version is too old to fix, it needs to be replaced.

Re: Congress is Broken; How do we fix it?
I would argue a Constitutional Republic is the best form of government and we should stick with it. I would suggest that term limits would be very helpful in straightening out Congress. Lifetime politicians are bad for this country, and special interest money makes those in office very tough to beat. We have folks in there now that will stay in office til they die! We had several examples in the last few years. Most people look to retire and enjoy life when they hit their mid-late 60's. Congressman still hang in there through their 80's and beyond. Why?

My solution would involve an FBI investigation afterwards or 4 year term limit, THAT'S IT! 4 years and YOUR OUT, NO coming back. These super lifers are PART of the problem. Age limits too, 60 max.

Term Limits should be imposed but Congress would never vote for such a bill or resolution because that would mean that the old farts would see their jobs coming to an end.

Term limits and Public funding for campaigns and media coverage. Everybody has the same amount of TV and interview time, same money to spend, no private donations or endorsements and multiple parties a level playing field so that any American with good ideas can get elected. No more lobbying in the sense of campaign money how that isn't illegal and considered being a bribe just shows how stupid they think we are. If you gave a cop who pulled you over 100 dollars to not give you the ticket based on the citizens who support traffic cop funds and he took he both of you would be in jail but our leaders actually brag about it as a good thing and endorsement its laughable if it wasn't so sad.

I have to agree ... but given the current atmosphere of Congress, neither party would allow any such bill to hit the floor. Democrats and Republicans are offended by any mention of term limits for Congressmen and Congresswomen.

Yes the corruption of POWER. It's about them serving their own ends not the people. Rich people making laws that govern the rest of us who they believe are BENEATH them. This is the problem with Democracy now. Instead of a King we have several hundred Kings and Queens. Our Congress needs an enema!!!!!
