Re: Kind of Scary
Yes, I definitely hear you!
I never understood the whole idea of the "supercommittee", as it seems they did not accomplish anything to help those of us who need it.
I'd love to see these politicians walk in our shoes...I know some of them may truly want to help, but I feel the majority of them are just in it for themselves...if only to get elected. I think I should just stop listening to/watching the news.
Good luck to you in your job search...we are all right there with you:)

Re: Kind of Scary
Thank you! I'm waiting presently to hear back for a job as I've had two interviews now with them, but...God only knows because there are so many people who are also vying for the same position.
It is really scary!

Re: Kind of Scary
we are praying for you Marian. I think we have to use the news as a tool, useful, but not in all cases. They report differently on every station. Cspan shows what is actually happening real time, but gets lost with the breaks etc. All other stations have a different take on everything. One station reports the facts or some of them while othersreport the feelings. Polls are nonsense, reporters are looking for a better job or a break into national news. Sometimes it's better not to listen at all.
Just keep your voice heard.
And, not to forget, good luck Marian. Please let us know.

Thanks MaryKay! I found out today that I didn't get the job that I was up for. It hit hard as I had two interviews for it and I really thought that it was going to pan out... It's hard as sometimes I feel like nothing ever works out regardless of all of my efforts...

Re: Kind of Scary
I am so sorry Marian. I think we all feel that way at times. It most certainly isn't you, just too many ppl looking for the same job.
I used to beat myself up about things, if I had done this would it have gone better, I should have said this, not said that. The truth is, many ppl, few jobs and giving it your all is staying true to the person you are. I have had other HR ppl and former HR ppl now in other positions tell me to dumb down the resume or not list my age, education dates so I will get looked at, but I have never been a fan of hiding or lying to try to get a job, it all will be found out. I just feel I am who I am and that won't change. We really need to have more hiring by more companies, less competition for one job. That's when the age, years of experience won't get such a hard look. It used to be experience was a good thing, now it means to an employer, too much money.
I hope you will keep advocating and posting. I know good things will come for us.

Thanks MaryKay!
I think that the woman who was hired could speak Spanish while I can't and with this particular job that was a plus... There is nothing that I could do about that, but it sure is disappointing...

Re: Kind of Scary
Hey there Marian, I've been reading your posts about the job teaching, just wanted to tell you that I had my good thoughts going out to you to get the job. Since I live in AZ, I know how tough the Spanish speaking requirement can be. Use to be a time when English was very important, but we all know how life changes. So, I know how you feel about getting passed over because you don't speak the language. Funny, I had a friend who was laid off teaching English as a Second Language. Hang in there Marian, do something kind for yourself today. Best Wishes.

Re: Kind of Scary
Thank you so much! I went into a depression yesterday, but another employer called this morning to offer me an interview for Monday! Thank God... I was starting to really despair...
