Live feed as thousands Occupy Wall St.
http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/09/14-0
Some are saying there are 50,000 people there? Can anyone confirm this? The media is not covering it.

Of course the media is not going to cover it! It may give people 'ideas' and they may actually get proactive and involved. We can't have this nation of 'sheep' wake up and try to reclaim our lives, can we?gettheminNOVEMBER wrote:http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/09/14-0

"Nonetheless, there's a feeling that the global financial system, the heart of which is in the U.S., in New York, that this system is somehow having its way with us," he said. "There's a feeling that we need a revolution in the way that our economy is run, the way that Washington is run."

Why There Are Protests On Wall Street: Their Actions Impoverished More Than 60 Million People #OCCUPYWALLSTREET
http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/09/18/321844/why-people-protest-wall-street/As demonstrators converged on Wall Street — with police blocking them from reaching the New York Stock Exchange — much of the news media paid little attention to the protests. Meanwhile, much of the conservative punditry has taken to mocking the demonstrations, with conservative Twitter users lambasting the “hippies” in New York City. CNN contributor and RedState blogger Erick Erickson labeled the protesters as “profoundly dumb.”
Certainly, debates about the tactics and strategy behind an anti-Wall Street campaign are warranted. But in a country where much of the populist energy has been absorbed by a movement that compared expanding access to private insurance to “death panels,” it’s worth reviewing why Americans and others should be protesting against Wall Street.
While many of the conservative defenders of Wall Street may be quick to portray protests against the American financial establishment as driven by envy of its wealth or far-left ideologies, the truth is that people have a very simple reason to be angry — because Wall Street’s actions made tens of millions of people dramatically poorer through no fault of their own. In 2010, the International Monetary Fund and World Bank conducted studies of the effects of the global recession — caused largely by Wall Street financial instruments that were poorly regulated by government policies — and found that the recession threw 64 million people into extreme poverty.

This is still going on!! More people are arriving daily. I guess there has been some media team arrested for covering it and also some of the protesters, Some have been hurt too.
There are several links going around on twitter about all of this!!! This is going to be HUGE!!! Media is finally starting to cover it
Here is one of the links I just came across a few minutes ago.

If 2,000 tea party activists descended on Wall Street, you would probably have an equal number of reporters there covering them. Yet 2,000 people did occupy Wall Street on Saturday. They weren’t carrying the banner of the tea party, the Gadsden flag with its coiled snake and the threat “Don’t Tread on Me.” Yet their message was clear: “We are the 99 percent that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1 percent.” They were there, mostly young, protesting the virtually unregulated speculation of Wall Street that caused the global financial meltdown.

Rhi, you are lucky - you don't live far from DC! I would give anything to be able to go! It is time people took action!

Wish I could go but can't afford the gas money. It's a 2 hour drive from where I live.

Well, I wish I could go, and can afford it, but have to work, and my health isn't the best for the trip...seems like we have enough pieces here to work, if we just combined the "can go person/people" with the "can afford attribute"...what do you think? All I would demand in return would be an exceptionally tacky souvenier shotglass...I collect them.

This Occupy Wall Street movement is ongoing.. and I'm glad to see it.. I will be a part of it this week as well and I urge you all to do the same.
With that said, I must inform you that the term "99ers" is starting to take on a new meaning. People are referring to the "99 percent" meaning the people who aren't the wealthy plutocratic 1% in this country. I think this is a good thing.. people are recognizing this is a fight for _all_ of us. This is a fight to rescind corporate personhood, it is a fight to make Wall Street pay for its crimes, its a fight for the unemployed, the underemployed and the impoverished, its a fight for anyone who lost their life savings, its a fight for real democracy, its a fight for our future as a country and as a human race.
This is in fact a worldwide event
I urge you to visit the following websites to find out more and to view the live feeds.

Twitter hashtags: #occupywallstreet #takewallstreet among others but those are the main ones.
