OK, I got ANOTHER interview
First topic message reminder :
So after my failure trying to get hire by Apple retail, I got a call today from Costco. They want to interview me for a front end position. They said I will have to interviews simultaneously with two managers and if they sign off then I will have a third interview and either be hired or not. I have to work for Costco for a while because of everything I have heard about how they treat their crew.
I have never shopped at a costco in my life. Has anyone ever worked for them or have any idea what their dress code is? Any advice from anyone?

I am so sorry! I'm sure it wasn't anything in your background, your friend was probably misinformed.
Though it may not be much of a consolation right now, please remember we are all here for you.

I wonder if it possibly could have been my credit. I have had bad credit for many years and never been denied a job like this because of it. I have even scored management jobs with no problem. They have even told me in the past that they only way credit will deny you is you owe thousands and they think you might steal from the company. I don't owe that much and wasn't even up for a management job. I would have been on the front end and probably handling money I guess it's possible that they disqualified me because they thought I might steal from them.
I don't know that they hired anyone at all. It's possible that after they had the credit downgrade Costco corporate could have told them not to hire at all.
The good thing about being here is that I have a business owner reference who will say that I am employed. I look like I am employed on my resume so there isn't even a gap on my resume except for part of 2009 into 2010. It looks like I have been back to work for more than a year. I am at a loss as to what advice to give anyone at this point. If I can't get hired with an inside contact in management, looking employed and having good references, how can I or anyone else expect to get a job?

Lendme,
I am so saddened by this news, and angered at the same time. What are we living in the twilight zone! I'm also disappointed in Cosco, and companies like Cosco. I hope the person or people who ultimately decided not to hire you get what's coming to them.
I hope and pray that you get some good news, like a job offer and that you get it soon!

LENDME,
I am so SADDENED and ANGERED to hear this. You have been one of the lucky ones who has had a friend's help to fill the gap on your resume. You certainly have gotten more interviews than my husband and you are much younger. I tend to agree with you that it may have been your credit history. I guess when you are working at a job where you deal with money, they can use this against you no matter how much in debt you are. You can drive yourself crazy trying to figure out why they did not hire you. The important thing now is where are you going to go? Is there family who can help out? Please try to hang in there. We are all here for you.

Re: OK, I got ANOTHER interview
I feel your pain. Over the last couple of weeks, I had 2 in person interviews and 2 phone interviews. I was rejected by each and every one. I have another phone interview today but in my heart I wonder what's the point. I feel nothing other than a sense of futility and hopelessness. I'll do the interview but I don't expect much at this point, why would I?

lendmeflight...
I wouldn't let this Costco bullshit get u down. I know some people that work for my local Costco & they tell me all the time that they are required to post job listings but most of the time don't hire from the outside very much...if it was for a front end person they problably went with an internal employee. I have interviewed with them before for management and had the same outcome.

nfpexec,
Don't underestimate phone interviews. The salaried benefited position that I hold now started with a phone interview that lead to a face to face interview with a company that I had all but given up on. I had interviewed face to face with this company last year and via telephone this year after applying for various positions with them for over 2 years! So I was much less than enthusiastic when HR called me in early July (3rd position they called me for) to schedule a phone interview with my current boss. To make a long story short, today I am starting my 3rd week working full time for this company at a very nice salary. Never give up and never blow off an interview (I almost skipped this interview because I was pissed at the way they got my hopes up and then chose another candidate last year).

Re: OK, I got ANOTHER interview
Ugh, sorry to hear this Lendme. So where are you headed to? back with the rents I assume?
Believe me I know how that is, Im currently living in my moms basement. Although I was lucky to find a "Job" I don't make enough to live on my own.

Re: OK, I got ANOTHER interview
OK, just to update everyone. I moved back home for now. I am almost moved in. I am having a hard time getting everything out of my old house.
My roommate gave me 10 days of rent back and my deposit so that will hold me for a little while.
Things seem to be ok, except that my dad has picked this moment to be the world's biggest buttwipe. He has mentioned finding a job at least 10 a day since I have been here. I understand that much. I told him that I would look for a job, don't worry about it. His response was "You don't need to look for a job, you need to FIND a job".
You mean I actually need to FIND a job? I KNEW I was missing something.
He seems to think I am the same age I was when I left home.
Anyway, at least I have a place to stay.
I just wanted to let the people concerned know what was going on.

Re: OK, I got ANOTHER interview
I know it's a pain to be talked to like that but use it as incentive to amp up your job search. Family can be helpful and hurtful at the same time. 4 years ago when we first moved to this town my family (three adults) had to stay with my retired brother his family for 4 weeks and it was the most humiliating 4 weeks of my life. Even though my husband was working and had actually transferred down here you would have though I was some ungrateful homeless vagrant stranger the way my brother and sister in law treated me! Everytime I came in the house (a huge place) they had questions about my job search and assinine suggestions. I used it as fuel to get a temp job within 2 weeks and it was the happiest day of my life when we gave them back their house keys. Needless to say we live in the same town and I haven't spoken to those insensitive idiots since handing back those keys! Family can be a real pain!
