Fla.’s Space Coast feels pain of shuttle’s end- 7,000 Jobs to be cut
CAPE CANAVERAL, FLA. (AP) - Workers at the Kennedy Space Center always knew the end of the shuttle program would bring hard times to Florida’s Space Coast.
They just couldn’t predict how much pain.
Some 7,000 jobs are being cut, and potential replacement positions evaporated last year when President Barack Obama scrapped plans to return astronauts to the moon.

Re: Fla.’s Space Coast feels pain of shuttle’s end- 7,000 Jobs to be cut
Didn't FL just go from 26 to 20 weeks, and it's all happening after July 1st so these poor folks are losing all life lines after the 20 weeks. Hope they all get very generous serverance packages. I missed the CBS evening news, maybe I can pick it up on the website tomorrow, guess they did a piece on it on the show tonight. Hope the private sector picks them up for new hires, I suppose at much lower pay since they can't sell their homes and leave the area, even if they could, to where??
