Dear Heather,
We regret to inform you that the On-Site Services Specialist.IMS Ops position located in our Saint Paul office for which you applied has been cancelled. We encourage you to apply for other positions here at XXX XXXXXX XXXXXXXXXX XXXX.
I have received this letter for every single job I have applied to at this company. Did these positions ever really exist- how many could possibly be cancelled? There was another company that did this; I'd get rejection letters less than 2 minutes after submitting my resume that would begin with: "After careful deliberation, we have chosen another candidate".

I agree, this seems to happen quickly after applying to many applicants. I think postings on internet search boards are not updated or removed and are driven by advertisment revenues, which they then purposely don't update to get additional "free" publicity and advertising.

We all know the feeling. It's awful. I had the auto reject letters with a large hospital here. Finally I had two interviews, a lot of running around to their various offices only to be told they hired a "recent graduate." I couldn't afford the gas, dry cleaning, hair color and estimate it cost me around $45 total.
I am behind in my car payments and risk losing my car with less than 3K being owed. I don't live near any public transportation. So I have just applied for a job with a security company. I am going backwards as I worked as a security guard when I was 21 and going to school. It only pays $9 an hour but it's better than $0 an hour.
I particularly hate the several page long e-applications that seem to be the most popular way of wringing out tons of detailed info and not receive any response. It takes me close to an hour as they all seem to want info that I don't have at my fingertips like past salary history. (I do have a paper list). I need to round up all my dates, references, salary, etc into one place. It's hard to do being so depressed.

I have heard that many companies advertise jobs that don't exist to make it appear they are growing.

I believe that as well. If they advertise with Monster,Career Builder, Snag A Job they get exposure and depending on who advertises with these boards, they get to do it free if they agree to attach an ad for say a school, trade school, ins. company. Also, look back and see if these jobs have been advertised for a period of three months or more. If they are, they are ads they run each quarter which leads me to believe they are ficticious. Perfect, fake recovery, fake jobs!! What a world.

Re: The Rejection, Dejection Un-Happy Dance
I forgot to mention what I have had to do to apply for this $9 security job. After completing an application that goes back 10 years, I took 3 online tests. One was reading comprehension, grammar and spelling and something else I can't remember. After passing that I took a 75 question personality test. I got a call this morning for an interview. If that goes okay, then a drug & background check. It's a little crazy.

Re: The Rejection, Dejection Un-Happy Dance
Usually they throw a basic math comprehension in the mix. I applied for a security position about three months ago. Passed all tests, drug screen and background. I was rejected because they told me that they didn't think anyone would take a 5'1" 105 lb 56 year old woman seriously enough to listen to her (This was a trade school security position for troubled youth). At least they were honest, said they would keep my application on file for other security positions with stores or companies requiring less of a hands on security position. I just wish they had told me this first, I was required to pay the $75 licensing fee for the background and drug tests. I know of some people who paid well over $100.
I have several friends who are now doing this type of work, they love it. Good luck Mo, let us know how you make out.

You beat me to it Mo, I was posting while you sent your second message. Personally, I think if people want to hire you, they should pay the fees. Anywhere I have worked , all 38 years, the company paid for the background and drug checks. If you are not guaranteed employment, why test. Also, they don't refund the money.

Re: The Rejection, Dejection Un-Happy Dance
I know, it's crazy and NO WHERE during this lengthy process did they state the upfront fees for the license. My past employer paid for all of it. I had to run around for the fingerprinting and drug test, and attend the class but they wrote the check. This is a legit company btw, but acting like a scam. She said in the past they paid for it but people took the money and ran. DUH! Make the check out to the city & county then. My guess is, too many applicants can't pass the criminal background check and or drug test and it's costing them too much money. In that case, then screen better. I am p*ssed off right now. Another waste of a lot time & jumping through hoops. I am sure glad I didn't use the gas to go to the interview and find out then. I was smart enough to ask during the phone call.
So MK, did they not refund the fees?

We really do run out of money looking for work. I'm beginning to think we should forward all of our rejection letters to the Ways & Means people (#AskObama needs to be reserved for solution seeking).
