Hiring Only Retirees Isnt Age Discrimination
QUESTION: I work at a private firm that provides security guards. It has adopted a policy that states that “all new hires must be retired law enforcement.” Does this reflect a discriminatory practice? With our economy struggling to get a foothold and widespread unemployment, is this the correct hiring practice to follow? If a person applies and is denied a job despite being licensed through the state as a security guard, does he or she have a case of discrimination?

I think businesses who use retired law enforcement are looking for the types of security people who are more police trained than just security trained. There are differences and I am not sure if it is discrimination.
Some security people simply check id's to let people into secured buildings and check floors when buildings are closed and use monitors but call police if there should be any trouble. Some people actually use armed security people, who if faced with confrontation, should be police trained. Also, banks, secured mfg. facilities use them, as they are trained in police work that helps them detect fraud, espionage etc that the state licensing doesn't cover.

lol, no. Just because you are qualified for a job and they don't hire doesn't mean it is discrimination.
