Please note, this is a hearing on the bill introduced in the House on May 5, 2011! This bill could potentially take the benefits provided in EUC08, Tiers 1 - 4, away from the individual. Provisions in this bill, as highlighted above, would put the money in the hands of each state and allow them to divert your benefits for such things as providing tax incentives for businesses to hire, use the money for training, etc.
Funds for EUC08, which was extended until 12/31/11 at the end of last year (S. 4213) would now be distributed to the states based on factors such as unemployment rate, population, etc.
The House Ways & Means Committee has NOT provided a list of expert witnesses, or provided a link to send a "Submission for the Record" for this hearing.
However, you can still do so by following the steps below and emailing them at the address provided.
Please act now! Tell them if they want to change the provisions of 4213, which was passed in December after compromising on the Bush Tax Cuts, that they MUST also ask the rich to give the money back that they were able to keep under the tax compromise!
This legislation does not affect the 99er's right now. It affects ALL the unemployed, even if you are on the first weeks of regular state unemployment benefits! The "99ers" would be affected if and when HR 589 (in the same Ways & Means Committee since 2/9/11) passes.

Plans for an "emergency trip" to Washington to attend this Hearing are currently underway. More information will be provided tomorrow!
These plans are contingent on the participation of ALL the unemployed, not just the "99ers".
Again, to all the unemployed, this bill jeopardizes any future benefits paid under EUC08 - Tiers 1 - 4!
Also, please be advised that only 14 states pay state EB when EUC is suspended or terminated!

Wow, they keep throwing a wrench in the current administrations plan for recovery and then keep yacking about how things aren't improving. Man, I had no views on parties before. But now I am beginning to think the republican party truly is made of deceitful people. Liars and cheaters.

I am with you. I used to be a repub. but now They used to be the moral conservative party . That promoted values with conservative government. But now they are just plain evil and full of greed. They are clearly taking and harming the SS, medicare and unemployed in distresse and saying we need to care for the rich and you people are dragging us and our agenda down. So its time to eliminate you! Die or go away, we don't care where you go or what you do! But of millions unemployed , they have classed us as beggars, sociological failures and its our fault mentality. We are all druggies and drunks. Devil is very well disguised .We are caught between two evils of greed from different perspectives. But the dems at least believe supporting the underdog and underprivileged. I never believe we are in a era of republican evil. They clearly have joined alliance with rich, and greedy with a different kind of killing power! God help us!

I don't think I can stand anymore from these Republicans. They ruined the country under Buch, but they blame it on Obama. I feel so ashamed of this country, terribly disappointed, disheartened, oh I could go on with the adjective all day. I feel so said. Dazed

They wont just go away. They need to be sent away. I am failing to understand why the American people are not doing anything about this?

You know, honestly, I dont care much about the SS fund. I mean, I don't want to be in a position that I have to rely on it. I would rather have my own savings. But this unemployment debacle is not good if they dont extend unemployment insurance. I have run out of things to sell to survive plain and simple as that. Plus, if I cant get employed, then I will HAVE to rely on SS when I retire. If they fixed the job situation right now or extended the unemployment benefits. There is still hope for me. Otherwise I can only see this getting worse as the years pass.

These 2 bills introduced by the Gop will not help the unemployed. Sure job retraining is a great idea, should of been done along time ago, however an income is needed to survive. If this is as good as they can do and call it a "jobs Bill" god help us all...

I saw this coming two years ago. A retraining program works when you have a place to stay and food on the table. Originally they wanted us to PAY for retraining then penalize your UI payments because of it. the system is broken big time. Money to survive AND THEIR DAMMED retraining program. GIVE US BOTH and NOW!!!!! GOPers need to save time and kill themselves now before we the masses march on them and pull their sorry hides from their ivory towers and subject them to our tender mercies.

It does seem like it has to come to that to get the point across. Once again those hurting the most will be hurt again by GOP legislation.
Im all for reducing the debt when its appropriate to do so, not when all economists are saying now is not the time. They appear to be walking around with their ideological blinders on and not actually paying attention to the facts and indicators of where things are headed.

I am waiting for that day. Let them keep pushing, can't do nothing to create jobs and then pull the benefits while the corporate welfare continues and the rich get tax breaks. Someone is going to notice and get pissed off! My throwing arm is ready!

Re: House Ways & Means Committee Hearing on H.R. 1745 May 11, 2011 - Urgent Message to ALL Unemployed!!
I have said this before and I will say it again. I have seen this kind of "ignorance" in corporations first hand. The upper management (which i was a part of) does not know what the common worker needs or cares about. People with the least skills slip through the cracks and get promoted. People who work hard get laid off. I've seen plans being hatched which made NO sense at all thinking it was exactly what everyone needed.
Saw other stuff too. Like these gas cards that needed to be raffled away...out of them 3 got raffled and 37 just disappeared.
The people in charge are humans just like you and me. Somehow they think they are smarter. It is not the case. They are only in power. Thats the only difference. How they achieved that power is another story. If this would be the stone age, these cowardly underhanding lying cheating bad people would have no kind of status. Unfortunately, we live in a time where the rich have put laws in place to basically screw the rest of the population. First it was minorities only, and now its anyone who does not have that much money.
Why was nobody arrested in all those wall street scandals that happened? Why are those people walking around free? Why are we bailing those same corps out while the rest of us suffer? I have no answer to these questions. Maybe someone can help me.

The Jobs, Opportunity, Benefits, and Services Act -- get it? "JOBS Act" -- would allow states to use federal funds to pay for state-level jobless benefits and to pay back federal loans to depleted state unemployment trust funds.

If the GOP wants to end EUC08, extended last year in S.4213, TELL them the "Top 2%" must PAY THEIR TAXES!
S. 4213 was extended until December 31, 2011, when the Dems conceded to another 2 years of the Bush Tax Cuts. The GOP held unemployment benefits hostage to keep these cuts. Now they want to re-write S. 4213 and stop your benefits June 30, 2011!
Act now to save EUC08!
