CA Member Needs Help: Question about FINAL Tier (Tier 4)
Hi everyone, I hope I'm posting this in the right place - I'm not sure if this pertains to JUST California or every State.
I'm from CA and I'm not quite sure if I'm on my last tier - at one point or another I lost track of my weeks and I've been scrambling for an unbelievable amount of time trying to find any sort of work...
I was laid off about June 14th, 2009 - and while I'm aware June 2011 is right around the corner, there have been quite a few instances inbetween having to file for a new claim form where I've had to wait up to 3 weeks or more to get new claim forms (and also missed my filing dates a couple times)
so while I'm making this sound more complex than it should be, I just would like to know...
If I'm on my LAST tier (tier 4) how come I haven't had the checkbox on my claim forms marked "X" once during this entire period? On one of my earlier tiers I had the X marked and I'd have to report the places I've applied to.
Has ANYBODY been on Tier 4 and not had the checkbox marked "X" during the final tier? I have about two more checks coming and I'm not even sure if this is going to be it for me, and my savings will have to start depleting til there's nothing left...
If anybody has the answer to my awful (and hopefully not TOO vague) question, I'd be eternally grateful. =)
And again I apologize if this is posted in the wrong place... This whole thing has really taken its toll on me and I have no clue where to turn.

Re: CA Member Needs Help: Question about FINAL Tier (Tier 4)
Welcome! I agree this whole situation has taken a great toll on all of us. From the information you provided, it looks like you may be on state emergency benefits. If you were laid off in June of '09, and had short periods of benefit delays, your "99 weeks" should be just about over.
I'm from RI, and the only time we had to answer work search questions was during the period I was on EB.
We will try to keep your question active through the day so as more of our CA residents log in later in the day, they may be able to give you a more accurate answer.
In the meantime, here is a link for information to the current unemployment program, including the Federal tiers and state EB.

Good luck!

Can anyone else help GottaKeepTrying? I am in RI and not really sure how CA residents certify for benefits.

I am in Calif and ran out of Tier 4 benefits in Sept 2010. The box you mention was never checked on my claim forms for tier 4, either.

That box shouldn't be checked for any of the Tiers 1-4. It's only for Fed-Ed (EB) that the box should be checked, indicating that you must report at least 3 job searches per week.

Why not just call DOL and find out how many weeks you have left. This will greatly put your mind at ease and help you prepare for the future.
