This 50,000 thing is so they can cook the numbers and use it in articles to say look the economy is coming back. What a joke. McDonalds food has deteriorated. I will never say I dont eat, have before when I need something cheap and fast, and I'm desperate though 9 times out of 10 will try to at least choose the small mom and pop restaurant, but this is a joke.

I don't like it either. It's basically "I'm hungry and in a hurry to eat something". I saw the CBS piece on at 5:30 and it's obvious what's going on: making it look like the economy is getting better. Even if McDonalds provided jobs for every single one of us that still wouldn't help the economy because these are low paying no skilled jobs.

It is a scam. Why did they have a public relations firm and camera crews set up throughout NYC to record this. To make them look good, not to provide livable wage jobs to the people who are suffering.

It makes sense though when you think about it. IM sure McDonald's dollar menu is a very popular item now. Need more peeps to pump out the 99c cheeseburgers, then those same workers put the money right back into the company.
Its sort like how the rail road and mining companies did many moons ago by offering company currency to use at the company stores. So basically the company wins on both ends.
You are working to eat and the company makes money on that end too.
This is scary scary stuff.

That is a good idea. EVERY unemployed person should show up and crowd the place. Show them how many need jobs.

You can't apply in person around here. I did apply online today to the two closest McDonald's to me - each 20 minutes away. One in North Smithfield, RI and the other in Uxbridge, MA. We'll see. I have applied to both before thru SnagAJob.com and never heard anything back.

This is a Propaganda scam. They will hire low balls, and kids. No chance of them hiring a former working professional in need of "JUST A JOB". But this will GIVE all the lowlifes and many GOPers ammo who think you can go to a Micky D's and get "A JOB" flipping burgers. They will point to this PR scam and say "SEE" you can work a Micky D's, Theres PLENTY OF jobs OUT THERE. This was PLANNED by the corporate evil for just this purpose. And it will be another fake reason for them to say NO to the 99ers.
We DON'T need service JOBS but actual PROFESSIONAL jobs that PAY 40 hrs a WEEK with a LIVABLE WAGE. Not 10 hrs a week moping floors at min wage.

What a JOKE! Ok, so 50,000 jobs...50,000 divided by 20 million unemployed...thats .25%.....A quarter of 1% to rephrase it if in case there is any confusion. Not to mention, the underemployment this represents. Sure, we just replaced a quarter of a percent of good paying lost jobs with this?????
I await the current White House Administration to do their Victory lap on this topic. They are good at that.

Probably a record number. Did their film crews record that?
By the way, I am still waiting for a call back from the two locations I applied to yesterday. I'm sure I will hear very soon.

Re: Today is the "Big Day" - McDonald's National Hiring Day" - 50,000 Jobs!!
I would rather stay home with my kids ages 3 and 4 then pay someone else to watch my kids for a measly 8 bucks and hour. I just can not afford to work at MCD's I literally can't afford it-so sad but I can't. And if I am honest I have paid my dues at restaurants in the past worked 2 jobs at a bank and at BW'3s I worked hard. But now at 41 with a degree and small children to look after, I would frankly rather exhaust my UC benefits and keep looking for the elusive office job. Hope I do not sound like a snob but MCD is not for me at this time.

What Munster said (and this is why I adore him). I saw the article today in the paper and they were showing former professionals applying. Btw, this is a liberal paper. The professionals won't get the job.
