Hollywood Sends Millions To Japan and 99ers Get Nothing

I just read how Hollywood sent millions of dollars to the American Red Cross to aid Japan. I commend these people and companies to be so generous and help a very worthy cause. I hope not to offend anyone but aren't there many Americans suffering here who are living in the streets without aid from our government. Our food pantries are running low in food products and shelters for the homeless are turning their backs to the numerous people because there is not enough room for the mass numbers.

Hollywood is wealthy because we made them wealthy. The money they are giving to charities are American dollars not foreign money. Shouldn't Americans support and help their fellow Americans. The names listed in the article are: Sandra Bullock, Charlie Sheen, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Walt Disney and Warner Brothers Studio. I would like to read how they contributed some money to charites to help us.

Again, I commend them on their charity but loyal Americans should support fellow Americans.

This nations priorities ARE SO MESSED UP.

I have been thinking the same way lately. We have so many causes to donate to here in our own country. There lots of children that need to be adopted here too.

Sometimes I think Hollywood donates overseas because it is the in thing to do and makes them look good. I say they can also look good donating right here in America too.

It's all about "LOOK AT ME" world I'm doing a GOOD thing. Nothing humble, nothing private. Jesus warned us about heralding one's good deeds to the world. He frowned on that.

As much as we are devastated in this country by being 99ers etc, I dont think its fair to compare what we are ging through to what Japan has suffered.
Now I know Japan isnt a 3rd world country at all, but they do need help.
As fas as Hollywood goes, forget about them making any noise on 99ers. were not going to the movies or buying DVD's...We dont matter to them..

If supporting foreign countries is the in thing, well maybe, we should stop going to the movies and renting videos from Hollywood for a few months. Without our support, Hollywood would be called Deadwood. No money from the public means no money for them, I mean millions of dollars.

To get even means boycott all products from Hollywood should be on our next agenda for the 99ers. We can make a difference.

Help is needed, but the Hypocracy has no bounds when THEY say we are broke, and yet the VERY plights of this nation's needs go unheard. Thats the problem. They yell from the rooftops WE are giving to OTHER nations in the media but turn a blind eye to it's peoples problem and we are vilified for it.

I haven't turned the TV on for well over a month - I don't miss it. I can't afford to rent a movie, let alone go to the theater.

8 million boycotting TV and Hollywood would make a small but noticeable and important dent in their coffers.

I dont know what its really ging to take for the unemployed to get the right exposure they need. We kept getting swept under the carpet and it really pisses me the hell off!!!!!

Yes Japan needs help but SO DO WE!!!!!!

To help a POOR orphaned African child as opposed to a POOR orphaned American child is ALL about prestige and BEING seen in the WORLDS eyes as a DO GOODER. Americans, children or otherwise are UNDESERVING because WE ARE A RICH country in the PR eyes of the world. We have TOO much so OUR children and unemployed are NOT worthy of their help. This is a twisted though process, just like our government running all over the world doing "GOOD DEEDS" yet ignoring their own backyard. This country has a BIG problem.

I agree with you 100%. We are not deemed worthy of help, and I can see how other nations would think that.
Our government should be taking care of us and not anyone else. We have all paid taxes when we were working!!

We could use a Hollywood advocate. I have faxed and emailed Oprah several times, no response there.

Hollywood and the leftists associated with it are a joke like Munster said were just starting to see the hypocrisy of the left don't worry come election time the UE will be first on their lists to mobilize. Just like in Wisc., when we were suppose to support the Unions (LOL)that do nothing for us. Were too valuable to the Dem party in our present state..If we got jobs and became successful then we'd probably want to keep more of our own tax dollars and vote Blue Dog or Repub so they got us where they want us; can’t bite the hand that feeds ya right (at least they make good speeches on our behalf).

I did invest in a DVD. INSIDE JOB. Matt Damon may be on our side.
Other than that, no new movies for me.

So the left is beyond reproach, lol the left is just as much at fault. To be blind to that is just plain wrong and they should be openly criticized about it just as much as the right would be period; to do otherwise is lending a blind eye to facts. The left is lesser of the 2 EVILS. At least poorer people can benefit and HAS from the doings of the left. You CAN'T say the SAME for the right. And you sure as hell CAN'T say that NOW. The Problem NOW is RICH vs POOR or the REST of us. That is the REAL division. Still one party over the other will do more, while the other will do nothing.

Yes your right we know where we stand with the right and the Dems give great speeches on our behalf. As far as what the left has done for us thats looking backwards, and looking backwards the right has done some good to. I am more concerned with the present and other then ralling the Unions to protect their campaign base I don't see much.

Many corporations are now giving to Japan's relief. I bet these same corporations are against unemployment extensions, Social Security and
the many programs for the poor that Congress is trying to cut.

I can't really begrudge any help sent to the people of Japan. Its a disaster and that deserves humanitarian aid. Our country has left the unemployed hanging out to dry but that does not warrant denying people in true disaster areas aid, IMO.

I don't DENY Japan help but I do hold disdain for this governments hypocracy in the matter of helping everyone but their own people and turn a deaf ear to them.

Charity belongs at home. I believe in charity but when I see millions of 99ers living on streets with their families going to bed hungry than I no longer want to be called an American.

People facing extreme disasters deserve aid and help from the whole world. To begrudge them that help is incomprehensible to me.
After 9/11 many countries helped the US with aid, thats what civilized nations do.

If you lived in japan right now and just lost your home, job and family and had to deal with radiation, you would hope the world had empathy and offered aid, trust me.

Every 99 er I know is getting food stamps to eat but housing and utilities are the problems. Don't get me wrong many are homeless but it has not reached the point where "millions" of 99ers are in the streets, yet.

Things are very bad and something has to change or the middle class will never recover. My wife and I lost our home. We are raising kids in a small apt and just barely hanging on.
I am a proud American veteran and I do not begrudge any victims of disaster aid.

I wish our government would help the unemployed but just because they are not even acknowledging the existence of us, I will not deny another aid.

My wife tells me all the time you have to extend empathy if you hope to receive empathy.
