Need an update on MA job market
Ok here's my story: I'm currently going to college, and haven't worked since last December. (one month holiday temp job). Due to the economy, and demands of a full time student, I haven't actively sought work. I mistakenly thought I was on track to graduate in the spring. Were I to graduate then, I would spend my summer with my newly minted degree finding work.
As it so happens, none of the courses I need to finish my program are offered in the spring. Therefore, the soonest I can hope to finish is in the fall of '14. That means I have sixth months of potentially nothing to do. I'm an introvert, I don't have much of a social life, and my funds are limited. If I can't get an internship, I've got to try to find a part time job for my sanity's sake. I can't keep spending months at a clip cooped up in my house and expect not to crack at some point.
I need to know from other Mass residents, what the job market out there is like. Now I'm not too desperate, I just need something to keep me busy if only for the weekends. Preferably something in an office. I'm not going back to retail/customer service hell if I can help it. I'm fortunate in that I'm in a situation where I can bide my time and hold out for something suitable. I won't go hungry or cold or evicted if I can't find something, but I will have to go through mind numbing boredom, which can be quite nightmarish in and of itself.
I'm from western MA, near Springfield. My major is in Medical Billing and Coding. I'm looking for any advice, stories, leads, experiences, anything that might help me. I don't want to feel like a prisoner in my own home again.
