26 Dead in shooting at elementary school in CT

This is in Newtown, a city about 30 miles from me. At least 18 are believed to be children.

I can not grasp the horror that took place in the school. Please say a prayer for all of the children, their families, and the teachers involved here.

I've been watching this sin e the story broke. It is unbelievable and heartbreaking. Even our President couldn't hide his emotion when he address the country a little while ago. Gov Malloy is talking now.

Nutty, my thoughts and prayers go out to my neighbors in CT.

Just 24 hours ago parents and buses were dropping children off at an elementary school. Their eyes growing wider each day with thoughts of the coming Holidays. Then something went horribly wrong. 20 children and 8 adults were taken from us, including members of the shooters family. Hundreds have lost their childlike innocence, way too early. Families have been torn apart. All at the hands of evil.

Soon we will begin to hear the names, and see the pictures of those lost.

Please continue to keep all affected in your thoughts and prayers.

President Obama is coming to Newtown later today to pay his respects, and attend a service for the victims.

The local news has begun showing pictures of the children, given to them by parents. Putting faces to the tragedy makes it even sadder. Some were shot up to 10 times, and were unrecognizable.

Sorry if any besides DIRI feel I m going on about this. I m trying to make sense of a senseless act, and feel the need to put my feelings here.

Just don't let this distract you from your everyday tasks and "consume" you. And what will seeing the pictures and names from a horrible event like this do for you. Don't let the media have it's emotional field day with you.

I just volunteered to help organize a Candlight Vigil in my town to honor those 20 little angels, and the 6 women who gave their lives trying to save them. I feel your pain, nutty, I live in a small, close knit NE town. The people of Newtown and surrounding areas will never be the same.

Kind of puts things in perspective, doesn't it?

Yup...I had my cry the other night. Being one of great faith, I was not only saddened for the parent's loss of their children during a most poignant time of the year, but my heart ached for the insenseless act that was committed by someone possibly mentally ill (although you really have to be sick to have done such a thing). To some it may have been an excuse...to some he was a monster, a coward, and even filth...but if he was mentally ill, how depressing it is to hear other people lower themselves that low, to even wish this young man to burn in hell. What has this society come to???? Let us not ruin the compassion and love we feel for these children and their families by bringing ourselves to a point of hatred...it will do no good! Whatever made this young man do what he did, is between him and his maker... let's leave it at that!

So they check out criminal backgrounds, and mental capacity of individuals...Good! But the killer in Newtown was not given a license to carry...it was his mother, therefore he had access to them. So checking ones mental capacity isn't the only answer. They've got to prohibit families that have family members who are treated with some mental issues. My son is disabled thru a mental deficiency, therefore the last thing I would do is carry a gun in my house. It doesn't take brains to figure that one out.
