religion and politics wordwide phenomonon
I have watched a few more documentaries..
from an historical perspective
we all know the shah of Iran was put in as a puppet by the CIA and a "democratically" elected government was overthrown to do so.
the shah was always hounded by what he referred to as a "Medieval Mindset"
this was of course a reference to Muslim clerics who were becoming Political
It would seem that as new wealth flooded into mid-east it was not so equally distributed.
this unequal distribution lead to an opening for the religious zealots to exploit
it would seem that a large proportion of the exploited population will turn to religion for solace.
currently we in this country have a large population whose lifestyle has gone downhill for 30 years, and we also have a religious takeover of one of our political parties.(coincidence?)
Historically the South has been a more homogenous group than the North
as the North had much more immigration to its industrialized workforce
The south is the base of these bible thumpers turned politicians.
its just a shame that the entire country has to be put on hold because of an historically racist an unimaginative group, however it is NOT unique to this country.
the Shah of Iran WISHED his opposition were socialistic/communistic, at least they were part of the current century and did not want to take us back to Medieval times
