As the article states...The Dems need to attach a "sweetner" to it like Payroll tax cuts. As my benefits come closer to an end I will keep my fingers crossed.

Re: Unemployment Extension: House Democrats Introduce Bill To Preserve Benefits Through Next Year
I think it is a lost cause for the moment. Unless the Republicans lives are threatened, expect more of the same. There is nothing to bargain for. Obama gave that to them last January.
I would prepare not to to receive anything this time. I am on the side of the unemployed. What they need are jobs. They have failed the 2010 99ers. We are the long and forgotten. Believe me that unemployment benefits does not stop people from looking.
I pray that the 99% movement headed towards Washington DC coming from Wall Street will be a force that will scare them into do something quickly.

There is a plan to Occupy Congress, and the reason for doing this is unemployment and jobs! Hopefully they can get a good group there, right now they are looking into buses, which will be hopefully subsidized by the Unions and other organizations so the unemployed and exhaustees will be able to participate!TR11005 wrote:I think it is a lost cause for the moment. I don't think that it's a lost cause. Too many people are still unemployed and struggling to not have the extensions...

Re: Unemployment Extension: House Democrats Introduce Bill To Preserve Benefits Through Next Year
This is the third year I have been fighting for unemployment extensions. It began in September, 2009, when the original "99ers" were about to run out of benefits before tiers 3 and 4 were passed in November. 2009. Fortunately, I found a job in October, but I will not give up the fight for the "99ers", who were the first ones to lose everything, and are now forgotten.

I think it will pass.........Like I said, they will attach it to payroll tax cuts and it will go through.......At 9% UE rate there is no way it wont go thru.....589 and the 99'ers is a tougher road, but they will extend it IMO for people currently receiving UB.

I've given up hope. All the Repubs want is to try and settle this debt issue and they now have 3 days to do it. No way they'll consider the extention much less help for us 99ers. I've already cancelled my holiday season.

When it comes to crunch time at the end of the year they will find common ground and get it done........The bill just needs to be piggy-backed to something else and revised, but it will get done

Sammy, I just love your optimism and attitude. I have said many times, I won't give up. For our members who have lost faith, I know, it's understandable, some days I feel like my chest will split open I am so anxious and upset, but if you can't bring yourselves to do it, send me your thoughts and I will do it for you.
This week should be a time of thanks, as hard as that is right now, but please know, I am thankful to have the pleasure of know all of you. You have kept me going when I really don't think without all of you, I would not have just given up.
I hope all of our members have a wonderful Thanksgiving, despite our problems, have the time to enjoy your families and relax, turn off the computer, the tv and maybe don't even read the news. Just enjoy what you have right in front of you for a few days. My uncle always said, Thanksgiving is the best holiday, good food, good people, no pressure, shopping, worrying is it enough, just people and conversation and togetherness. Enjoy!
We'll be here and we'll be here after the holiday as well.

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well, MK.......but I can't turn the TV off on Thankgiving, as my Dallas Cowboys will be playing.
To the topic, I think some people mis-understand me. The 12 month Extension for people CURRENTLY receiving UB should pass, but 589 is a different animal.
Good luck to all and God Bless

Hi Marian,
It's a long running overdue "extend the extended" bill to assist the "99er's"; those that have exhausted all benefits and are at the end of their rope.
Please see http://www.unemployed-friends2.org/t4114-congresswoman-barbara-lee-speaks-out-hr-589-discussed-on-house-floor-november-17-2011-video#49723 for starters.
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Unemployment Extension: House Democrats Introduce Bill To Preserve Benefits Through Next Year
Good Morning everyone. It's a miserable day here in NJ. Pouring and warm, but flooding. Please all, if you are travelling today, be safe.
I don't think we will see much action for the rest of this week and we will probably get nothing but old news. So I will be tweeting but not like next week. Monday, I will be at it again full force.
Thanks to all of you on this forum for making this unemployment hell a much easier thing to deal with. All of the friends I have made here are what I am thankful for.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Re: Unemployment Extension: House Democrats Introduce Bill To Preserve Benefits Through Next Year
Can any one tell me, if they do extend benefits into 2012, if you would get that extension if you are on the last tier of benefits? Mine is due to end this Dec. After that there is no more for me. Upstate NY only allows 72 weeks not 99.

That's correct jculp. That's why we are advocating for the 99ers and HR589, even if you are a 72er, you would be eligible under the HR589 bill. It's for all those who have exhausted. I will be tweeting out today and of course any updates I receive will be posted.
