Managers Pushed for Fake Job-Placement Figures, Ex-Workers Say
“Despite the downturn in the economy, our Workforce1 career centers are on pace to match last year’s record-setting total of more than 17,000 job placements. But we can do more.”
— Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Dec. 1, 2008
Our mayor takes much pride in his “I’m one tough businessman” ethos. Each year he instructs commissioners to set higher goals for placing the unemployed in jobs, and each year contractors deliver those numbers on the dotted line, even in hard economic times.
It is quite miraculous, particularly if the numbers are based in reality.
Unfortunately, a question mark hangs over such claims. Six weeks ago, I wrote of Bill Harper, a manager at a city-financed job center who discovered that staff members, in at least 400 cases in three months, had taken the history of jobless clients, changed dates and salaries, and claimed past employment as a job found.

And we wonder why the numbers always look skewed. This is a disgrace.

These are very serious accusations. If they are true, people need to be indicted and if found guilty, thrown in jail. I am tired of hearing of these cases where orginizations "cook the books" in order to make things seem better than they are. This is one of the reasons why the voices of the real victoms of this depression are not being heard.
This incident is only the tip of the iceberg. It is not an isolated case!

seedco, goodwill all those welfare to work programs are just boondoggles and a waste of taxpayers money. The real function is to provide retaliation against white people for applying in the first place.
The racism is everywhere in these programs. OH's stimulus plan gave money for 2500 subsided jobs to NYC and 90% of it went to the parks dept which is 86% minority........and almost ZERO to help train anyone white.
Plenty of money TODAY to be a truck driver for Fresh Direct, money for Home Health aides, of ramp agents hauling baggage at the airports, or they pay for your security guard license and background checks and clearances even for gun permits.....but NOTHING if you wanted to fix or program computers or graphic designing websites, or being paralegal.
Plus they ran out of job training $$$ in Feb, and maybe they will have some funding in October...... but not for the above jobs

Ricky that is a horrible statement to make and requires proof. Please refrain from making those kinds of statements, they will not be tolerated. This article is pointing out fraud in the system, not actual placements of anyone of any race in particular. Please stick to the topic.

The proof is right there.. My wish is that OH is so bad we can end Political correctness once and for all....so that statements like this are accepted as the real reason why things turn out like they do..
Remember these people are a lot smarter then you or I, they have the 6 figure jobs, so they can lie quite well about their motives.....except I see the red flags flying and its not pretty.
OH this just in....Pelosi's BIL just got a $737 million loan guarentee ...... crony capitalism

Compare the unemployment rate for blacks OVER 16% and whites 9%. Black people have more unemployed looking for jobs. You see racism everywhere HUH? Out of white sheets yet?
