Robert Half and Fair Employment Opportunity Act of 2011
I was at the well known national staffing agency, Robert Half. Claims to be most admired employer in the country and with banners in their office. Many of of us know of their discriminatory practices to the unemployed, we will not consider you thing. The reason behind this new act. In Ohio office I visited yesterday, they had a position I was called into apply for, perfect match. I cover up my gaps in unemployment on my resume, your a fool if you don't!
However, I have done contract assignments. My problem is it is next to impossible to get any references. Which this agency should know, since they are a staffing agency!
Robert Half has a company policy that you must provide a reference from a supervisor of less the 2 years or you will not be considered!!! Other agencies have accepted my older references. The recruiter insisted that he would get in trouble for if he submitted me, even though I am fully qualified with experience, education and current training. If this was another agency he would have!!! I have had some problems with other agencies, they claim it is not them, but the client in this case or they would.
This especially makes it wrong, because it is a written company policy and they claim to be the most admired. I feel like burning them all down. I think that that is justified!!!
Instead I contacted my US Senator Sherod Brown office this morning. He is a great Senator and has proven himself a warrior for us unemployed and others with their problems in numerous occasions on the Senate floor. I called to make sure that he will use a written company policy to finally show proof of this evidence that can be used against them as a weapon!
Please take a moment to call your Senators, to remind them. We have evidence of total discrimination. There will be no more game playing. Pass this law or were coming after you!!!
We are not playing anymore!! This is the final curtain. [u]

Before my Layoff in January 2007 from united space alliance, I asked everyone about a reference and no one would give a reference, I was told the company will not give a recomendation or reference due to lawsuits if you do not workout one company sues another, true or not I could never get a reference.

Thank you freds. You totally understand where I am coming from. Time to end this BS, once and for all. If you can't serve us workers then what good is the staffing agencies! They don't like it, but we are customers too. Without us they don't get paid! Without out us the clients don't have workers. They need us more than they we need them. We will go to agencies that comply with fairness.
BOYCOTT ROBERT HALF OR BURNED THEM DOWN!!!
Please contact your Senators and getter Done!!!

Robert Half has always been know for their selective practices, for many years. I personally would not recommend them to anyone. Sorry for your troubles TR, but I really would not worry about these people. Many companies don't like their practices either.

I didn't know that about them...think I've been called by them, or applied to them or something at some time, but never worked for them. Thanks for telling me. Especially since I'm working, it's really easy to tell them to go %$# off and why, so if they call, you'd better believe I will!
Sherrod Brown--yep, a great guy! I'll trade you him for Toomey!

Not sure what you mean about Sherrod Brown, I live in NJ, but formerly Pa. I would trade away Toomey anyday.

I would trade away Toomer any day for almost anyone, the little twirp! I can't even remember PA ever having two Dem senators...as far as I can tell from this, the last time was for two years between 1945 and 1947...am I missing something?
I'd love to have Sherrod Brown for our senator!

I know what you mean. Many large companies have a shared services department to handle any references. It's against policy for their working employees to give out references for the very reason you stated. All the shared services can tell a potential employer is the dates you worked and what your position was. They are so afraid of being sued. You would think the agencies like RH would know this.
RH is not anywhere what it use to be many years ago. All the placement agencies have been a big disapointment! I try not to apply for jobs listed by an agency.

As a fellow Pennsylvanian, I second that Joan. We got Looney Toomey instead of Joe Sestak. Ugh!

Re: Robert Half and Fair Employment Opportunity Act of 2011
Late this afternoon without any interview, an agency offered me an assignment much better then Robert Half. Only presented me to the client, without any references. There is justice! A great assignment that will use my skills and what I have spent training on for months. This is something I can rebuild my career on!
I still hope Senator Brown gets this law passed and goes after Robert Half. We all need to be proactive now! If anyone wants to tear down some banners here is the place!

Doh!
We (technically) had two Dem senators for a short time when Specter switched a few years ago...I forgot about that. But I think I can be forgiven because it didn't really feel like having two Dem senators.
