I'm puzzled
I had an interview today for a part time job!!!
I thought it went well but I've been there, done that and so I tried to maintain a level of calmness. After I returned home I e-mailed a thank you note because the guy who interviewed me said he would be making a decision today and so I wanted to let him know how much I appreciated him interviewing me, briefly rehashed my qualifications, and told him I felt like the position would be a good fit.
I stepped out for about an hour (should have never left) and when I got home I had a message but when I went to listen to it the caller hung up without leaving a message (I don't have a cell phone). When I checked the number it was the company that I had interviewed with but I was very puzzled and wondered why no message was left. Then after I screamed a few choice words I calmed down and decided to call my interviewer but they said he had left for the day.
Now the problem is they said he won't be back until Wednesday next week!! Now I wonder why I was called at all and why whoever called me didn't try again. Was my number dialed by accident? Did I blow it by not being here to answer the phone? What's your opinion and how should I or would you handle this situation? If he indeed hired someone today then I guess I'm SOL but if he didn't I'm still in the game I guess (??) Waiting until next Weds is going to be pure torture.

I understand your concern but I wouldn't beat yourself up trying to figure it out.
If anything I doubt it was a negative reason. Don't lose any sleep over it.

Thanks but I'm good at beating myself up! So you think I'm still in the game...maybe? I just don't understand why they didn't leave a message or call back. It's frustrating.

Re: I'm puzzled
I have to agree. There's a million reasons why he may have dialed your number. It was probably because he had your interview on his mind and he may have been trying to call somebody else.
More than likely, he may have had additional interviews after your interview and employers routinely will interview all candidates before going through the final round to determine who to hire.
Employers rarely will tell you how many people have applied for a specific job. They are not required to tell you how many. I wouldn't worry about anything until he calls you back, When he does, just wait to hear what he has to say.
Just don't jump to conclusions until after you speak with him the next time. Just because he didn't call you back when he said he would does not mean anything ... everyone says that but how many actually call you back exactly when they said they would?

Think positive. Employers don't like to just leave messages and assume that you will get them. Praying that the missed call was good news for you.

That's probably more correct. They prefer to personally talk to someone on the other end.

UPDATE: No news is good news I guess??
Well....it's Wednesday at 4:30 PM and still no word. I'm giving it until Friday then I will call. Hate to sound negative but I'm afraid I already know what the answer will be and it's not positive...

Just remember, when you call them, try to keep your cool and be nice when speaking to them. Just sugar-talk them ...
