Joke of the day "U.S. Jobs Up 117,000; July Unemployment 9.1 Percent"
First topic message reminder :

Hiring picked up slightly in the U.S. in July and the unemployment rate dipped to 9.1 percent, an optimistic sign after the worst day on Wall Street in nearly three years.
The Labor Department said Friday that employers added 117,000 jobs last month. That's an improvement from the past two months.
The mild gain may ease investors' concerns after the Dow Jones industrial average plummeted more than 500 points over concerns that the U.S. may be entering another recession.

Now the markets are up! The Dow is moving 5 or 10 points a second! I never seen the market this volitle (down 200 points 30 minutes ago, up 100 points now)!
Just close while it is still in positive territory!

The pres. made a short speech and said the 117,000 jobs and a drop to 9.1% was good news and looking up! Hello! Been there done that, how in one week can this be interpreted as good news! Doesn't it take few months in a row or new jobs at or above 250,000 and drops in unemployment to below 375,000 new claims to mean something consistent! What a con artist!

OK, here's an example of what I'm talking about, in this linked story
http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2011/08/05/jobs-report-a-pig-in-lipstick/
Look at the end of the 6th paragraph. "In July, labor participation fell by 193,000"
OK, we all know that's not true, but it shows how they juggled the numbers. They had a negative growth figure, and they needed a positive one, so they cooked up this figure of 193,000, added it to the "real" numbers, and voila! They can claim a gain of 117,000 jobs instead of a loss of 76,000 jobs.
This is an example of the transparent lies within the report. I think we all know there are far greater untruths concealed in less visible places.

Re: Joke of the day "U.S. Jobs Up 117,000; July Unemployment 9.1 Percent"
This is NOT good news, here's why: "According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics breakdown, there were 139,296,000 people working in July, compared to 139,334,000 the month before, a drop of 38,000." So what does this mean? It means simply: the .1 drop in the official unemployment rate was ONLY because more 99ers exhausted their unemployment.

Are you sure that's really a good idea? Whatever it is, it seems to kill both brain cells and conscience at a very fast rate.
Burning rope doesn't cause one to lose touch with reality.

My husband does not want to be lumped in with the crowd that GAVE UP LOOKING. He is and has always been looking, despite the constant depression and frustration. The media really needs to stop mentioning this whenever the job figures come out. If people think the chances of getting extensions are bad now, this will not help it any.

Re: Joke of the day "U.S. Jobs Up 117,000; July Unemployment 9.1 Percent"
I have yet been called about my Unemployment Status. Although I collect early SS, I still consider myself Unemployed unless someone starts picking on me. Then I tell them I am retired stupid. What did you expect me to do. Put up a can in your face! I can be a mean old bastard too, since they can't take my SS away.
Were still 80,000 jobs short, just to stay even. Statistics lie! I didn't know we lived in a Communist country. Perhaps, I know now how the American Indians were treated. Treaties are made to be broken. That sounds like Cantor. Lets scalp him, Granny gets first try!

My husband and I never thought we would see the day where we wished to be 10 years older, but we do now. At least we would be able to collect our SS and have medical coverage. The RePUKElicans will destroy everything we have worked for.

Funny... the last few years reports of 1,000's plus of jobs being cut were news; now 100's of jobs being "created" is big "positive" news. Companies on now "on-sourcing" - bringing back 100's of jobs to the 1,000's plus they sent from USA to other companies.
Why am I crying?

The truth is that 9.1 number is a big fat lie. I did some research yesterday as to how they figure out who the unemployed are, and it goes beyond UI claims.
Having said this, those who are discouraged workers or have given up are not counted among the unemployed. The TRUE rate is 16 plus percent from what I've read, but I believe it's even higher.
