School Board votes to send layoff letters to RI teachers
The School Board voted last night to "pink slip" nearly 2,000 teachers in the Providence school system. Providence Teachers Union President Steve Smith had said earlier the decision was "beyond insane" and "created chaos and anxiety among teachers".
