Cisco Plans to Cut Workforce by 11,500 to Slash Costs
Cisco Systems plans to cut its workforce by 11,500 employees as part of its plan to cut annual expenses by $1 billion and revive its business.
Analysts had predicted thousands of job cuts after Cisco said in May that it planned to reorganize the company which has been losing ground in the network equipment business.
The company announced more cuts than some analysts expected.

Borders Calls Off Auction, Plans to Liquidate
What is left to unwind are Borders' 399 stores, about two-thirds of the locations it operated when it filed for bankruptcy in February. It currently has 10,700 employees.
Borders will begin closing down its remaining stores as soon as Friday, and the liquidation is expected to run through September.

That right...lets PROFIT by cutting the workforce. Once corps decided that THIS was a WAY to make money. THE VERY SYSTEM OF CAPITALISM WAS DOOMED TO FAIL FOR THE REST OF US.
Never mind that whole BS of TRYING to generate $$$$ by doing a better job or making a better product. GOPers are the same way. Never mind generating NEW tax revenue. Lets just cut cut and CUT so save what we have.

Oh, no...this is NOT a depression! No sirreee. Why, the recession was over two years ago, didn't someone tell ya?
Since this is all a figment of my imagination, tomorrow, I will wake up solvent with lots of money in my bank account, a fabulous job, a decent living situation, the ability to take care of myself, my loved ones and my community. I will read the morning paper, and find our GOP is staffed by people who love this country, and human rights aren't a whim. And all across the country, the rest of us are waking up to the same kind of morning.

Unemployed people don't buy new books or routers. The U.S. economy is imploding just as the corporate elite planned. Knocking down the American worker is just the first domino. Then businesses fail because the unemployed American worker can't buy anything. Then the government fails because the American workers can't pay taxes and the big banks and very rich don't have to pay taxes. Whose idea was this anyway?

You intentionally left out the first paragraph. Play nice. All of us get slammed daily- no need to go after each other, is there?mistermunster wrote:couth11 wrote:

If it makes you happy, I dreamed that I locked Dave Camp in the men's room while my cat took over the boardroom. I'm not sure where my other cat was- maybe driving the getaway car.mistermunster wrote:couth11 wrote:You intentionally left out the first paragraph. Play nice. I just realized something- all of those people will only have 26 weeks, and then nothing. Competing with us for the non-existent jobs, they may resent us for having had the extensions. Going back to all of us being pitted against each other for crumbs, while our reps sit- and sit. and sit some more. But their bills are paid, and they have food in their bellies-proper food- and they have healthcare, and they..have..at our expense, they have. So do their cronies.

Yes, yesterday Bloomberg reported 6500. This continues to be scarey.

politico is reporting 6500, either way, far to many for one company and now 6500 additional families will be suffering.

Yeah, this is beginning to look like the start of the 2008 depression, where company after company began announcing layoffs of thousands of their employees. Deja vu all over again.
Payroll costs have been a major expense for companies ever since they began trying to entice people to leave the farms and come to the big cities to work for them.
Technology to replace office workers? Yeah, right. That's a bunch of hype. They want you to think that Mr. Whipple flips a switch and Robbie The Robot smoothly and seamlessly takes over. You ask anyone who has to work with these buggy apps that are rushed to market, and they'll tell you that they hardly ever do what they're designed to do, and the employees who are left are forced to make manual corrections to the garbage produced by them. Some senior exec makies a bad decision to go with a certain piece of technology, and since the cost of reversing the move in mid-stream is greater than sticking with technology bugs and all, the employees who are left are forced to live with the mistake. No company is willing to admit that their CIO made a major blunder!
I can't speak for manufacturing, but I know this is what goes on in an office environment.
