Re: California gets over $800 million in unemployment funds
I wouldn't doubt that's why she has been silent. This money does nothing for 99ers here is CA and there's half a million of them. I wonder if the state senate would consider doing what Oregon did and extend aid beyond 99 weeks?!? I highly doubt it.
I wish they would have allocated that money to the 99ers in all of the states, it may not be 16 billion but it was something that could have helped. Don't get me wrong I am not trying to sound selfish I advocate for all unemployed, but for those of us who have nothing right now I would like to see some assistance there...

In this State, you can FORGET it. The crooks in Sacramento are going to misappropreate this money like you would not believe. 99ers, never see a dime of this.

Re: California gets over $800 million in unemployment funds
"I am pleased that California's leaders took the necessary steps to provide unemployment insurance to an expanded group of deserving workers," Solis said. "These funds will help people continue to pay housing expenses, buy groceries and take care of their families while they look for full-time employment."
What the HELL does this mean????? Those still ON EUC08 are getting BENEFITS Already thanks to the law passed in Dec. SO WHAT does this NEW money GONNA DO??? WHO does it go to???? 99ers???? This whole mess of INFO is so floating in the GREY area it isn't funny.

Re: California gets over $800 million in unemployment funds
OMG! This makes me FUME! I'm a 99er who lives in California. And I have to agree with the majority, they would not give this "extra" money to the unemployed. Selfish, greedy and without compassion.
What Oregon did for their residents is commendable. I honestly thought CA was broke, now reading this? It's totally unacceptable.

Re: California gets over $800 million in unemployment funds
"California qualified by adding provisions dealing with part-time workers...."
Like the way they've ignored the federally-mandated "part time fix" legislation? Yawp, I've been dealt with all right.
"Over the past year, California has borrowed billions of dollars from the federal government to pay for unemployment insurance."
And this explains why they've ignored the "part-time fix."
Okie, CA! You got some $ now, time to starting following federal laws! Oh wait....
"The state can use the funds to pay unemployment benefits, provide employment services or administer the state's unemployment insurance program....."
They get a choice? Guess which they'll pick.
"provide employment services....." Stand by for ineffective programs.
heh. I may be a little bitter

Re: California gets over $800 million in unemployment funds
I agree and we are all upset. However the fly in the ointment here is federal funds cannot be dispensed for a Tier V or for 99ers until they change the law. Oregon was using unused state funds, so they can do as they please. They would not have been able to if it was federal funds. We know why the law wasn't changed.
At the beginning of the year, many states returned stimulus that they refused to use for bridges, roads, basic infrastructure. Now this money is being sent to states that request this unemployment help, but they have qualifiers as explained in the the article. If the individual states legislatures and governors do not agree with the conditions, funds are not released to them. Otherwise the states would have taken the money and used it to help balance their budgets.

So explain to me what "providing unemployment insurance to an expanded group of deserving workers" IS? WHO are these groups of "deserving workers"???? Can't be those still on EUC08? That's supposedly FUNDED. Is it a fact that this is in REALITY $$$ to plug the hole of a BANKRUPTED UI system. Funny thing about ALL this is the detractors ARE already coming out of the WOODWORK "THINKING" That it's MORE "FREE" money to DEADBEATS and ILLEGALS.

Re: California gets over $800 million in unemployment funds
Exactly Munster. Here is Governor Browns statement on the money.
"These funds will help 26,000 unemployed Californians who need additional support as the state's economy starts to recover," said Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. "Thanks to the leadership of the president and Secretary Solis, and the actions of our own state legislature, California is better equipped to serve displaced workers and is on better footing to pay down our unemployment insurance fund debt."
http://hr.blr.com/HR-news/Performance-Termination/Unemployment-Compensation-Insurance/CA-Receiving-838.7-M-in-Unemployment-Insurance-Mod/
Yeah but what about the 446,000+ that have nothing?!?!? Oh yeah that's right we don't exist...

Re: California gets over $800 million in unemployment funds
Sheesh, kabeesh... worse and worse.
"The ABP provides for review of the most recent wages earned by a UI applicant in determining eligibility for benefits. Currently, only wages earned in the first four of the last five completed quarters are accessible for determining eligibility."
This is going to screw even more part-time workers. EDD checks earnings every quarter, but has had to wait a quarter before they could cut off part-time workers from receiving partial federal extensions while working. Now, they'll be able to recalculate a claim without waiting, basing benefits on the part-time earnings of the most recent quarter.
I still think I did the right thing in accepting work, although it effectively made me a "60er," because here it is, 8 months later, and I still can't find a better job.
However, if I was a Californian just starting on federal extensions and trying to decide whether to accept a crap retail part-time job.... I admit, it would make me think twice.
gg, CA. ;p
