The "99ers" Krugman: Fears and Failures
And it wasn’t much of a recovery to start with. Employment has risen from its low point, but it has grown no faster than the adult population. And the plight of the unemployed continues to worsen: more than six million Americans have been out of work for six months or longer, and more than four million have been jobless for more than a year.
It would be nice if someone in Washington actually cared.
Unemployment isn’t just blighting the lives of millions, it’s undermining America’s future. The longer this goes on, the more workers will find it impossible ever to return to employment, the more young people will find their prospects destroyed because they can’t find a decent starting job. It may not create excited chatter on cable TV, but the unemployment crisis is real, and it’s eating away at our society.
Yet any action to help the unemployed is vetoed by the fear-mongers.

So we’re paying a heavy price for Washington’s obsession with phantom menaces. By looking for trouble in all the wrong places, our political class is preventing us from dealing with the real crisis: the millions of American men and women who can’t find work.
I am thankful that Krugman is our side.

I posted this article on my facebook page. Somehow it feels like I have to share it and that it might be empowering in some way.

I just wish the "Chief Economic Adviser", Austan Goolsbee, would listen to him!

Yeah, Krugman is 'spot on' and has been all along!! Not impressed with Austan Goolsbee or Timothy Geither neither.
THEY IGNORE THE UNEMP at their, and the whole nation's, peril. You can't return this nation to our former standing with 25% of the population being strangled with un/under emp issues and no way to address their own talents to enable their livihoods imho!
The whole is a tangled, twisted MESS of the unemp crisis, housing market (or lack thereof!), health insurance, and results = DEFICIT!! Instead of solutions for the causes the Repubs look at the END RESULT! What a waste of energy they are...
I gave my thirtysomething kids the usual 'things will improve' Mom's Day talk --- 3 years running!! They don't believe or even hope anymore...

Just too many holes in the dam to plug up at 1 time! (unemployment, energy costs, health care costs, food costs, housing market, federal debt, weak dollar, foreign trade deficit, etc., etc.)

Tim G is also a wallstreet crook. Number one concern for Americans is also the cost of healthcare. Thousands are dropping it even if they have a job, can't afford the cost. Some have no shared cost, it's all riding on their paychecks now. The holes are not getting plugged at all, there just getting bigger by the day.

The Tax Cuts have to go! The middle class and poor are suffering and paying the consequences of the GOP agenda to line the pockets of their corporate buddies and defeat President Obama in 2012.
