The release by the White House of President Obama's "official" birth certificate was a poignant reminder of just how deep and pervasive racism remains in our nation.

Think about this: A sitting president has to "prove" to the nation that he was indeed born in America -- Hawaii -- and therefore eligibly qualified to be elected president of the United States!

A factually non-issue was permitted become a national issue, not because of Donald Trump and the media. No, this was the ultimate result, of the silence and tacit acquiescence of white political, religious, and community leaders, especially leaders of faith-based organizations, who sat, said and did nothing to counter this insidious new form of 21st-century racism. The silence and abnegation of moral leadership, by persons whom we should have otherwise expected to publicly to challenge this growing "birther" issue, is a stain on the conscience of our nation.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but, the Constitution...you know, that document that the current occupier ot the W.H. does not respect...REQUIRES his party to vet him and that was not done. Try to understand that.

OMG! Tell me you aren't serious! PRESIDENT OBAMA, the person who "occupies the Whitehouse", was probably vetted more thoroughly than any other candidate in history! The party that apparently skipped the vetting process was the GOP - look at their VP candidate!

The DEMS admitted they DID NOT vet him. they were too excited to destroy this country, and have someone that would get on the "fast track" to accomplish that. they had control of all three branches of Govt. and could not do anything constructive. Sorry about your luck.

When it first came up 2 plus years ago. Either Reid or Peloser, admitted that they "negleted" to get that info. As I understand it, it is the party of the candidate to do the vetting.

OK, come on now, you mean to tell me that NO ONE asked to see his birth certificate and credentials at some point during his political career? I find that VERY hard to believe.

I personally believe this is a smear campaign against Obama.

Presidential candidates are self-declared, meaning they decide to run on there own. During primaries, many candidates from each party, Democratic and Republican, run for the nomination. Each one of the 50 states have either a Caucus or a primary election. In a primary election, people go to the polls and vote for the best candidate in the party they are registered for. If you are a registered republican then you vote for the best republican candidate and visa-versa. In a caucus, a group of democrats and a group of republicans from the state meet at a certain place in the state, usually a school, town center, or lecture hall. The groups are then spilt up into smaller groups for what candidate they support. When this is all done, a mediator counts the heads for each person in a group and the candidate with the most people in his or her group wins the nomination for that state. After all the primaries, and a candidate is chosen for each party to run in the general election, then the Speaker of the House,(Pelosi) is to Vet the candidate and sign off on the "vetting' and release the information to the FBI...

In the national election, each state votes on the first Tuesday in November. This race is between one republican, one democrat and sometimes a third party candidate. If a candidate gets the most votes in a state then the electoral college awards that candidate how ever many votes that state carries. For example, Massachusetts has 12 electroral votes. If Barrack Obama wins the most votes in MA then he will be awarded 12 electoral votes. A candidate needs 270 out of 538 votes to win the presidency.

And that is the process.

As I understand things from the State level, it is up to each state to also determine the legitimacy of the candidates running. Also, in the case of 0bama, Nancy Pelosi signed off on him "twice", which went unquestioned.

I understand that whole process.

There is another process all American's have to go through also when they begin working for a new employer. I don't think the Federal government is any different or is exempt from these rules when a new employee goes on the payroll. One form in particular comes to mind - the "I-9".

Now, why do we have that requirement in the hiring process.............. Wink

That still doesnt prove that he was never vetted.

He has been under a microscope since the 2008 presidential race. The fact that people fall for this stuff without any proof to back it up is truly disturbing.

If you can show me that Nancy Pelosi herself has admitted that he was never vetted, then I will believe it. Other wise, I am sorry but I consider it rhetoric.

And no one has come forward saying that they knew him in school, or worked with him, or better yet, no one has ever come forward and was at their wedding??? maybe it was too far to come from kenya. lol

I'm aware of what it means......I didn't ask that. It's customarily used in boating, where usually, by law, one is also required to carry signal flares. The up-side-down flag is a means of last resort to signal distress. So you feel justified showing the flag up-side-down because someone decides to proclaimed a national day of shame? You have no other way to signal your distress of being unemployed? Did you call 911 yesterday because you feel that the national unemployment situation is a life threatening emergency? Your ends don't justify your means.

Well, how does one follow this. Let's see, if we just look at the history of the FBI, I think we can be comfortable in knowing that any skeltons or dirt he had in his closet would have long ago been made public. As I recall, we have had potential candidates drop out because the wife drank rubbing alcohol after leaving Betty Ford. If he wasn't US born, he would be out of there by now. If you can call to impreach Nixon, and try to impeach Clinton, you can tell Obama that he can no longer serve as President.

The Upside Down American Flag

The upside down American flag is a symbol for a nation in distress. And certainly America is in serious distress!

Where's the upside down flag for the tornado victims.

I remember when people stared wearing ribbons for AIDS, now there's even a ribbon for male pattern baldness "A hair is a terrible thing to waste".

The flagrant use of these ribbons has diminished the meaning behind it, it has become just too common.

I must say I was disappointed to see such an iconic deeply meaningful symbol used like a a coffee filter.
