Is the 99er nation the cause of a sluggish recovery?

How many 99ers have completly given up looking for work?
Is the 99er nation the cause of a sluggish recovery?
I’m perplexed about something maybe someone here can help me with.
I realize many of us lost great paying jobs with great benefits. Most of these jobs are truly gone forever. However, over the last year there have been many part-time “McJobs” available which many 99ers did not pursue in anticipation of a tier 5 fearing major reductions to benefit amounts if they had to file for only partial benefits. The mathematical side of my brain agrees with this but, the logical and patriotic side of my brain disagrees with this strategy. I know they say there are five people for every one position out there. To me this means that you have to try five times harder than the traditional job search, maybe ten times harder? I get a feeling this is not happening when I see the same members posting comments all day and evening. I hope some people have not completely given up on job searching regardless of the slim chance of landing a job.

I find your post rather insulting to our nearly 600 members. No one has given up looking for a job. Anything is better than nothing. Going without income for a year and losing everything you own is not the way we choose to live.
As far as the 5:1 ratio for every job, that is a myth. It is more like 100 - 200 applicants for every job opening.
Even the "McJobs" won't hire us. We are the longterm unemployed lepers. I know, I have applied for everything I even remotely qualify for every day.
As far as the reason for the sluggish economy, don't blame the 99ers - blame Congress and their tax cuts to billionaires and large corporations and their failure to create JOBS!
