Still waiting, Companion case?
Hello Everyone,
I was glad to find this forum. I applied for UI on May 20th. I was at first approved but then my employer dissputed the case (along with another employee that was let go under the exact some circumstances) After Hearing our "rebutals" to his dispute they merged our two cases and told us they are now a "companion" case. Of course the only reason I know this is because i was smart enough to keep the name and number of the person I spoke to at UI.since then, 3 weeks have gone by with no info what so ever. So in total its now been 7 weeks since the claim was first filed. I am wondering if anyone else has gone through this process of haveing a "comanion" case reviewed since apperently goes to another department. I dont understand how they expect a person to survive through such a long waiting period. I have kids to take care of and NO income!

Re: Still waiting, Companion case?
I have never heard of this. So you requested an appeal and hearing. You received the hearing but a decision wasn't made?

Re: Still waiting, Companion case?
No, I have not requested an appeal. So far the process has been as follow:
Original application for benefits on 5/20
Contacted about 3 weeks later informing me that my employer was "dissputing" the claim. Was told my former employer had 48 hours at that time to respond to them.
about 3 days later on 6/16 i was contacted by a case manager and they asked me for my "rebuttal" to his disspute.
Luckaly I had kept the contact information for the claims manager I spoke to so after about a week I started to try to get in touch with her.
After about 2 weeks had passed i finilly got in touch with her. She informed me that my cased and the case of the other employee who was let go have been turned into a "companion case". meaning they are being reviewed together (we were both let go under identical circumstances). It has now been 3 weeks since they took my "rebuttal" and they have no info for me as to how long the process wil now take. All they tell me is that since its a companion case now it went to a different department and the adjuster is waiting to hear back from them. When I ask how long the process takes they just say it depends how backed up they are.

Re: Still waiting, Companion case?
It takes a long time. It took me 8 weeks under similiar circumstances.
Re: Still waiting, Companion case?
Yes, it takes a long time time. I don't want to be negative but I was told that If I had to have an appeal that it could take months. As it was, mine was disputed and it took me 10 weeks to get my first check.
