Too Poor to be "Sick and Poor" in America Empty Too Poor to be "Sick and Poor" in America

Post by Guest Tue May 31, 2011 9:03 am

We all know that "sick" and "poor" go hand in hand in the US of A. Some of us get sick and then land into medical debt. Illness is still the biggest cause of personal bankruptcy in this country. That's why Congress made it impossible to walk away from medical debt.

And then, there are those who can not afford to take advantage of the crumbs which we toss to those who are both "sick" and "poor". This diary is for them.

You are Too Poor to be “Sick and Poor” in America, when you do not have a photo ID to prove you are who you say you are when you go to the doctor’s office. The government is too broke to give away your indigent healthcare to some other poor person. It gave all our tax money to the banks, including the one that owns your medical debt that you can never write off, because real Americans do not get something for nothing and if they make bad economic decisions---like suffering a heart attack they could not afford---- they have to pay the consequences.

No they don't, sadly. If you live in a state that offers medicaid, you are lucky, however, don't get sick, the care is hardly good. Charity Care is the only way you can get hospitalization and that only covers the room, not the Dr.s. They can turn you over to collections. So why give charity care, most sick people aren't looking for a place to stay with lousy room service, they need the Dr and the care.

I am to the point where if I get sick, I just hope it is something that will kill me quickly before I am hassled to death by the debt collectors. I really just don't care anymore.
