Great site for all the "Boomers"!

We boomers vowed never to become our parents, marched for our causes in the 60’s and 70’s, and fought discrimination on all levels. We made advances in civil rights, equal rights, and equal pay for equal work. We changed the music, built a thriving middle class, and lived the American dream. Unfortunately, the tables are turning, and we are quickly losing ground. Time is of the essence, and we must take action now! If we wait five, ten, or fifteen years, it will be too late. With the passage of time, congress will get younger, and we will loose the advantage of an experienced, caring, mature congress that understands the downward mobility cycle that faces aging Americans.

She suggests a “reservation” type solution similar to the American Natives plight when a group of people are deemed undesirables.
I took a different track for myself this morning and looked at what I face when my last check is issued (probably June 20th). First clear out the ING managed savings account, plan to do that anyway, second collect my pension in September at 55, and third apply for early SSI.
I’ll be under they radar as far as unemployment status is concerned; at least I will be out of “their” way. I’ve started to plan and plot other ways I can survive 55 that will take my EARNED dollars out of the control of banks. I have simple needs and I can do this; definite switch from the consumer I used to be when I made an above livable wage. I didn’t make New Years resolutions, I made shopping lists. I feel more at peace now that I have an ACHEIVEABLE goal other than frantically pursuing jobs that flit away at the first in person interview. Age discrimination is alive and well, but then again, so am I.
I need to do something, and this was a good site that got me thinking about "talking with my earned dollars", taking it personal and doing more than just advocating electronically.

I love the heart shining over the water! Seeking an achievable goal instead of frantically scratching at the impossible/unlikely is very wise and a timely wake up call for me.
I just haven't figured out what is achievable in my case. I'm old enough to be discriminated against, but not old enough to qualify for anything (I could get short-term food stamps amounting to 12-16.00 per month, but I would have to spend money going to and from their back-to-work work seminars which actually costs me more than the benefits I would receive). I definitely like the idea of being proactive.

Thank you; I wasn't sure how my post would be accepted. It's my own way of coping. I am very thankful to be reaching 55. I just had to accept how I got there, and explore the resources available to me now! I still feel “young and dumb”, and very numb until I figured out my plan of contingency. I keep thinking back to my parents and grandparents, what they faced at the middle and end years and the impact they had on me. It’s all good, I may have to drop out to survive, but my son will still be proud of me; I know that in my heart.

I just wish I had known three years ago what I know now. It is too late for me to be proactive, just about everything is gone. I never would have thought I would be where I am today.
