How many work searches per week?
I received a letter needing work searches for the past month. I sent back one for each week and the customer service person I spoke with stated that they now need 5 per week. Is this something new? This is not for EB just for Tier 1.

It sounds like you are being audited. There were never any written work search requirements for Tier 1.
Just an FYI, in this economy, apply for everything and anything you even remotely qualify for. Jobs are few and far between. I have been sending a minimum of 3 resumes/applications a day for over three years - and I am still unemployed.

Re: How many work searches per week?
I've been out since March '09, with a brief temp gig in a call center and a few freelance writing assignments here and there. . . today I got a call demanding 4 weeks worth of search info retroactively. I've heard of people having to report their job search each time they claim their weeks, but I've never heard of being asked for a previous time frame, and with no warning. Anyone else heard of this?

Actually, yes I have. Not sure why they did it, my neighbor had this happen in NJ. Twice.

If your collecting UI, don't apply to everything. If you refuse to interview they can report you and could loose your UI. Only apply to suitable jobs, until your extensions run out. if you can afford it. That may not be popular, but it is the smartest thing to do and in many states legal.

Re: How many work searches per week?
The only thing I can tell you for certain, whatever they ask for, send it. It would not be worth holding up your benefits or even risk losing them by not complying. Desperate may be right, it could be an audit. In PA they sent a letter asking for searches, explaining they from time to time they audit.
Also, it may just be that with States changing how they handle UE, they are now going to required work searches for all claimants. It should be explained, but much doesn't get explained in the form of changes or new regulations. Again, I strongly suggest that those that receive any requests do as instructed.

I have always kept track of where I apply, who I apply to and what the result is. However, I've taken my resume off sites as I was getting scam letters. I've set up an email address just for my job search. There is always a record of my job search.
