Call-In Campaign Empty Call-In Campaign

Post by Laborforce Blue 7 Thu Mar 13, 2014 6:00 pm

I looked around the board searching for the right section for this post but only can come up with here.  So excuse me if I made a mistake in doing so.  Also excuse me if what I’m about to say has already been posted.

Now I’ve read a lot of posts on this message-board calling for action by way of contacting political-officials, which is good.  I totally agree that that is something that’s needed.  However, has there ever been serious consideration about the media as well?  Some of you know I’ve complained about the silence around this issue by, both, the corporate and [supposed] alternative news-media a couple of times before.  And recent posts have lead me to this idea.

Can there be actual endeavors centered on hitting these news outlets hard, really hard?  Organizational-campaign around flooding talk-shows (no matter the show’s genre, right or left) with calls focusing on the issue, learning to immediately call in the show to back-up other callers who pushed the issue (‘cause, on some of these shows, those same callers would eventually get bum-rushed and cutoff and/or the points they raise get played-down), all of this besides flooding these stations with e-mails too.  Getting in touch with organizers of the Occupy Movement and others to help make this happen.

The talk-show hosts who are supportive, and especially those who pretend to be, will come-off sympathetically and so forth but we should keep pushing it bringing it to the light.  Be as factual as you can by quoting laws and stats, able to name names and give dates and so on letting them and everyone else know that you’re not just talking out your ____ (fill in the blank).  And use wisdom when the topic is on the something else.  Like start-off giving your views on the current topic then sedgway (segue, follow-up) into the unemployment issue every now and then (i.e. what’s going on in the Ukraine is important but I don’t think it should be placed above what happening right here with millions of people suffering tremendous hardships waiting on a decision about EUC… or… there should be no discussion about giving financial aid to anywhere else while crying broke to the needs of people here).

You can bet the house that the rhetoric of ,“giving unemployment-extension will only encourage people who are not doing anything anyway not to work” will be brought up, which should be followed-up by us (and allies) pointing-out the fact that, we’re not welfare-recipients, we are formally employed people who have fallen on hard-times but while working we also put money into this thing too.  Plus other factors pertaining to that matter raised by self-absorbed idiots (usually of the right-wing).

Anyway, that’s an idea I have.  Any comments, suggestions, advice and or constructive-criticism will be appreciated.

Ed Schultz, Ali Velshi, 60 minutes, Tom Hartman, Stuart Varney, Charles Payne (yes, even Fox), The Root, the Huffington Post and many other media sources. Members here have been featured. We have sent Testimony for the Record several times to different House and Senate Committees.

Most of us here are done with all of that. Believe me, we tried everything and gave it a good fight. Every time EUC was the threatened, the unemployed came out in droves to advocate. As soon as they got what they wanted, they disappeared until it was threatened to be cut off again. People who we thought were good friends disappeared as soon as they got their benefits or a job. I am very bitter. I have been involved in every action taken regardless of if it would help me or not. So have many who are still here have done the same. You are giving advice on things we did several years ago. It appears to me that unemployment extensions are not the answer. Put that money into job creation with programs like WPA or CETA. Both of these have worked in the past. What good are extensions? No good, they only help for a short time, and they run out.

Advocate for job creation programs, not extensions.

Now, concerning that, we’re definitely in total agreement!!!

A sincere provision for decent-paying jobs (actually aligned with cost of living) with appropriate benefits in conjunction with firm principal labor-laws for the people is undeniably top priority for real economic balance.  Still, as I alluded to in the other thread, I don’t think it will really happen (unless the people quit playing around with all the games that are set and really put things into action).   As I aforementioned in the “Here We Go Again” thread, my view of the situation of what’s happening in regards to the current economy isn’t that it came about by happenstance or thoughtless blundering.  It is by design which is a deliberately meticulous downsizing process by the string-pullers of society.  And, no, I’m not promoting pessimism ‘cause as I also pointed-out a couple of times before, the people can turn things around if they honestly develop backbone, get real and quit letting themselves get so caught-up in mind-game manipulations and distractions.  Yet, the unemployment-insurance issue is still an important matter by considering the plight and outcome of what will happen with people in the meantime.

As for what you said regarding the opportunists who latch-on whenever times get hard solely for them, I fully know where you’re coming from.  Scumbags like that do exist.  You’ll get no argument from me about that.  However, I think what should also be considered is the fact there are many facets pertaining to the woes of society today which leads to multiple fronts one can take a stand on.  I’m involved in two court cases that I’m handling myself that have political ramifications.  That besides openly speaking-out and taking stands against union corruption and foul-play and a lengthy count of other acts of activism bringing about assorted manners of attacks and abandonment.  So believe me, I definitely know where you’re coming from.  Although I didn’t go into detail, I went into some of this in another post that was an OP of a thread.  However, like I said, for some strange reason, that thread, replies and all, was taken down with no explanation.  Anyway, whoever is doing so can stop the imaginary-violin motion ‘cause the only reason why I bring all of this up is to point-out the fact that even though people are not beside you, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not still in the fight.

This extension should have been passed in December !

As far as JOBS go we are a long way out before we see any job creation here in America . This is what opened the door for jobs to flood away from the USA and it should have never been passed !
Ross Perot was right it happened we witnessed it !

Dec 8, 1993:
NAFTA signed into law

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is signed into law by President Bill Clinton. Clinton said he hoped the agreement would encourage other nations to work toward a broader world-trade pact.

NAFTA, a trade pact between the United States, Canada, and Mexico, eliminated virtually all tariffs and trade restrictions between the three nations. The passage of NAFTA was one of Clinton's first major victories as the first Democratic president in 12 years--though the movement for free trade in North America had begun as a Republican initiative.

During its planning stages, NAFTA was heavily criticized by Reform Party presidential candidate Ross Perot, who argued that if NAFTA was passed, Americans would hear a "giant sucking sound" of American companies fleeing the United States for Mexico, where employees would work for less pay and without benefits. The pact, which took effect on January 1, 1994, created the world's largest free-trade zone.

NAFTA is old news. The TPP is what we should be concerned about now.

NAFTA is what started it though , what you speak of is more added to it !

It really doesnt matter both parties did it in 93 for their rich donors and will do it again !
Unless we the American people come together and rise up about it !

We even had a national organization (sort of) called NELP. They advocated for the first couple of years for the long-term unemployed. They sold us out though when they realized that unemployment beyond 99 weeks would not happen.

They continued to advocate somewhat for keeping the existing 99 weeks in place, but the original 99ers, me included, were simply thrown under the bus!
