Ha ha ha. That is funny. Unfortunately, the attorney I would need to hire to comply with all the regulations so I won't end up in jail, requires a $10,000 contingency fee.

So what about the people who have exhausted benefits? Will these people who start businesses with their big unemployment checs (hahahahahaha) hire us?

They make it seem like unemployment money is gravy and just used for pizza money or something. For most this is a means of survival!!

For most unemployment benefits were not a luxury amount of money. My unemployment was less than my wages that I had & a tough time making everything come out even at the end of the month & most of the time that also included overtime.

Although I have been a 99'er for over a year...when I did get unemployment I still lost my car due to not being able to pay rent, utilities, insurance, food ect. So where are we supposed to have the money to start small businesses after everything else is paid?

Maybe he's thinking about bailouts for us so we can start a business. It would pass the House and Senate just as fast as the Wall Street bailouts... wouldn't it? Is this ridiculous statement supposed to address the unemployment problem head-on? Stay tuned for next year's tip.

That's a pretty good suggestion. Invest money you need to live on, on something that even in the best economic times has at best a 10% success rate! You have better odds of taking your UI money to Vegas, AC, or to the track!

I believe most people would love to have their own business (be your own boss!, get out of corporate America!). Talking from experience, it's not as easy as some make it out to be.

If you have money you can afford to lose, and pleanty of it, then I would say go for it.

Too funny. That's why I love the attitude of some people who honestly believe, no matter how you cut to the bone, that there is actually something left to start a business, get a different degree, run a home based business etc. For a fact, I cut to the bone, if it was not essential to life, it went and I still struggled, every month.

Hi MaryKay. I'm trying to hang on - I guess its all due to the "uncertainty" of the market. Hope you (and everyone else) are doing well also. I am quite disturbed that our government officials don't seem to have an understanding of what is going on economically with the under and unemployed, and wondering how can that be after all this time. Maybe we should learn how to make hand-stitched sneakers and start up businesses. We could use discarded tires for soles. Kanye West plans to charge $90,000 a pair for his. I know, I know, just another of my desperate ideas. Idle question: Will $90,000 sneakers make the crime rate shoot up? Ignore me, I'm stressed.

invisible, I know you are stressed. You are most certainly not alone and if I could get 90,000 for tires, I would do it.

We are all in a position at being at the terminal mercy of others to open up the labor market, help with additional benefits or retraining funds. None of which seem to be happening, so here we sit and wait while our minds and bodies stress and our skills become stale. It's outrageous.

I'm glad you and others are still here fighting. I will never forget, for as long as I live how our government simply abandoned the millions of us who THROUGH NO FAULT OF OUR OWN wound up either unemployed or underemployed, buried in a mountain of debt, and had our homes, cars, and everything else we own taken from us and given to those who DESPITE THEMSELVES are STILL SOMEHOW gainfully employed, SMUGLY telling those of us who are struggling to simply "get a job", instead of offering to lend a hand.

My wife and I are working 4 jobs between us and we're holding our own. We're fighting tooth and nail, in full survival mode and will continue to fight for as long as we are able to do so. I've managed to channel all the anger and rage I felt because of what was done to me and my family into something contructive.

One day, if and when this country ever improves, I hope to someday tell my grandchildren, just as my grandparents told me how we managed to live through this Depression.

Keep fighting, never give up, and do whatver you have to in order to get through this. I will continue to support this site and it's cause.

Thanks very much for that. It's not easy, and it's very tiring mentally and physically. I haven't had a full day off in over 3 years! I used to be in IT. Once I realized that I couldn't land another IT job, at least for now, I swallowed my pride and finally decided to look for just any job(s). Thank god, at least around by me in North Jersey there are pleanty of low-paying jobs, and they are always hiring.

Yes start a new business...you have so much extra money while on UE..what a frikin idiot.
