CA EDD Telephone Interview Question
hi, i had posted my original question in a different category, but i believe this is the right place. long story short, after working freelance and being cut off unemployment because i reported income and they told me i was self employed, i was able to get back onto the extension i was on before i reported income. there was a mix up with the date i last worked and the day re opened my extension, so the dates overlapped, looking like i worked and was trying to claim benefits the same day. my freelance job pays per minute of audio typed, not by the hour or even days you work, and the official end of the week was saturday and i mistakenly said sunday. i had called to get it fixed last week and they said they fixed it but of course didn't document the information. when i called to see where my check was, i was told my acct had been flagged. this was on wed aug 10. i explained the situation about the overlapping dates and she said she removed the flag and i would get my check. today i got a letter for a phone interview that was dated aug 10, to ask me the questions that i cleared up in the last call. i called the automated check line, expecting to hear " no payment has been made" and it said that my check was issued on wed aug 10. when i called the check line on wed morning of aug 10, it said it had not been paid, so what i am wondering is if anyone has experienced this and since a check was issued later that day, is it possible the phone interview letter just crossed in the mail? from what i know the edd does not issue any payments until a phone interview takes place, and calling them again might add more issues, so i am hoping my check comes tomorrow. anyway, thanks for reading and any information would be helpful! i am grateful for unemployment but the anxiety of these letters is enough to give me a panic attack!

Re: CA EDD Telephone Interview Question
Just have the proper documentation. If you can get a I-99 form that would be more legal. In Ohio, I did freelancing or Independent Contractor Assignment for a week. I had no problems, my UI was stopped for a week, since I made too much. I had to restart the claim by calling up.
There only concern is that you continue to look for work and interview for suitable jobs just like everyone else on UI. Many think being self employed rules out collecting UI, it doesn't. Only when you exhausted your UI from an W-2 employer and still follow the rules. You must work 20 weeks in most states from employers that pay the Unemployment Tax in a calendar year.
