Jim DeMint: Jobless “Gaming the System,” I Hear Jobless Want to Remain on Food Stamps Empty Jim DeMint: Jobless “Gaming the System,” I Hear Jobless Want to Remain on Food Stamps

Post by Guest Mon Sep 05, 2011 7:41 am

DeMint, Tea Party favorite, told CNN’s Candy Crowley he has talked with businesses in South Carolina who have told him people would rather stay on their unemployment and food stamps than take a job. Anyone know what the average monthly payout for food stamps is? MSNBC reported in June 2010 the average payout per household was $275. In June 2009 the average was $133 per person. There is a record 45 million Americans on food stamps (aka SNAP) right now — 14 million Americans are unemployed. The Federal Housing Finance Agency lawsuit alone against Bank of America focuses on $58 billion in residential mortgage-backed securities. That might give you an idea of how much the predatory lenders “gaming of the system” cost the U.S. But what did Sen. DeMint put focus on?

I don't like that term "Gaming the System". I've been out of work for 1 year and 8 months. Last week I became a 99'er and I am trying to keep my head above water. I have never applied for food stamps in my life. But, next week I will have to as I won't be able to buy groceries, pay rent, etc. It's something I don't want to do but I will be forced to do it. I would much prefer to have a job but I can't find anything. I've sent out hundreds of resumes, and gone on very few interviews. I'm sure I am not alone in this situation. In my lifetime, I've never experienced a job situation like this one. We are all suffering, why isn't anyone listening?

These hypothicated lying employers that say people would rather stay on unemployment and food stamps rather than take a job, that hundreds of thousands of unemployed should show up at their door and demand a job! When are we going to quit taking this crap and react in a way that exposes the unemployeds plight they cannot ignore!

Lets see DIDN"T WE HEAR THAT AUG. PRODUCED NO JOBS!!!! Like we are not looking and bilking the system as if there are so may jobs out there and we refuse to take them. Tell me of the millions of 99er's don't want a job! So if we are not recieving any benefits how the heck can food stamps pay our rent and expenses! Sick of these idiotic comments!

Well, you will be hearing much more like them when the Republicans you so want voted in win big in November. You want this President out, this is exactly what you will be getting time 270 or so. Personally, I think you are wrong, I don't think these Republicans will win, or any Republican for that matter, but time will tell. As you have been told, 1208, careful what you wish for. We all know too well, that a jobs plan that consists of only reducing taxes on the wealthy has gained us little in the way of jobs and as they constantly accuse the President of, where are the details, where is the guarantee from these corporations they will hire, from these top 2% wage earners they will hire? There isn't one. Meanwhile the country is falling apart, which is what they want, just like with Jimmy Carter and the Iran Hostage Crisis, as soon as we get a Republican back in office, the country will magically go back to work. If true, we're being lied to by the Republican Party and held hostage, not to mention it's a dangerous game and a costly one at that given that so many business themselves are hurting and going under. Not a group I want running the country. Good luck with them.

I think we should copy all of our bills, and send them to him with a letter, include in that letter, the $0 income we are currently getting, then show him your receipt from food shopping for one week with your Food Stamps and ask him what we should do for the following three weeks, since $200 just about pays for one trip. I have become creative in making that last, but I have no children and luckily, someone who will buy the soap, laundry detergent, bleach, paper towels and toilet paper which food stamps don't cover, not to mention shampoo, toothpaste or aspirin, etc. How cruel can you be?

I for one don't think that the majority of the people feel this way, we just see the news clips of him and his crowd, which is never large, so we take the media at their word that he has a following. So did Michelle Bachman, she was the frontrunner, however, she was never in the lead and is dropping daily. Now Romney is out and Perry is in, but remember 14 months is a long time to have people running around the country referring to Social Security as a ponzi scheme. There are more people than not, who will just not go for it.

If Obama had a supportive congress you would be singing a different tune right now. The right will continue to block everything and not let Obama fix the problem. You can't blame Obama for the 120 Repub fillibusters in the congress. A record number by the way by far. Now they don't even want to hear the Jobs plan. Again he needs a SUPPORTIVE congress not a bunch of NUTJOBS willing to default to prove a point.

I hear ya 1208, its very discouraging and confusing. Its also frightening to think that they hold the key to survival for so many. They constantly put the needs of the rich and themselves before the American people.

The only issue I take with Obama is that he is not standing up to them. He needs to show his power. I have no doubt that he will surprise us all and pull something out of his hat just like he did with the Osama Bin Laden thing. He WILL make a come back, I just wish he would do it NOW! He is trying to appease and compromise with the GOTP. It has to stop. They will never side with him on ANYTHING and as we have witnessed, that makes his job ten times harder.

O he has a plan and it includes spending. Unless we are spending to give rich people tax breaks the GOP will block it and then tell everyone Obama wants to spend more. All of a sudden the GOP are debt hawks. Suspect Suspect Suspect

“…The government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like the state governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government.”
-James Madison

"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.”
-Benjamin Franklin

Actually it DID under Eisenhower, a Republican who THESE days would be called a liberal, progressive, socialist. TODAY's Republicans have MORE in common with Nazi Germany. As FOR TODAY all this infrastructure talk is CRAP. It CAN'T work for MOST of the people who are UNEMPLOYED and OVER 40. It's TOO physical labor INTENSIVE for lots of people in this mess. If you are in your twenties or early 30's and in GREAT shape, good for you but lots of us have physical issues that would disqualify us from WORKING 40 hrs a week out in the hot sun. It's NOT as easy to just SAY pick up a shovel and START digging or climb up on that bridge and start riveting. Many people have come from the sit at a desk office environment and NOW they just expect at a snap of their fingers your GOING to start laying ASPHALT? I DON'T THINK SO. O'Blowme is going to talk SMACK this week with his jobs plan, both sides will start pointing fingers at each other...PROBLEM continues. Can you SEE a geriatric CHAIN gang working out there on the side of the ROAD? affraid infrastructure jobs will work from SOME but not ALL but they make it sound like it will save us all.. the jobs problem is FAR deeper than ROADS and Construction gigs.

1208...It does stimulate the economy. All the people that will be back to work from this will be contributing to taxes, spending money at the surrounding businesses etc, and will restore consumer confidence. How will it not be good for America?? We are seriously behind on infrastructure. The reason he is fixated on it is because it will jump start the economy and get millions back to work rather quickly. Its the quickest way to get that many people back to work. Isn't a few million back to work better than none? My husband is one of those construction workers that would benefit from this. Would you begrudge others a job because you dont stand to benefit from it? we need to start somewhere.

I really think he's setting up for executive order.
