2 Million 99ers Scream Hard Recovery For the Jobless
Scanning the news headlines, the hits seem to just keep on coming on the jobs front. The nationwide unemployment rate increase to 9.2% from 9.1% over the month. The unemployment rate also increased in 28 out of 50 states in June. California, Florida and Nevada — the three states that were hit hard by the housing bust — all had unemployment rates still well over 10%.
The New 99ers
The more disturbing numbers are coming from the long-term unemployment. Nationally, the average duration of jobless in America shot up to 39.9 weeks as of June, or about 10 months, which is a record high since the BLS started tracking the data in 1948.

This doesn't paint a pretty picture. The debt ceiling issue will further compound these issue. Washington must wake up and fix the mess they created.

Jobless, without intending any disrespect for you, (my disrespect is reserved for politicians), what do you think the odds are of that happening?
I am coming to suspect that the politicians are working to a secret agenda.
Re: 2 Million 99ers Scream Hard Recovery For the Jobless
I heard over the local radio today a political analyst saying this. Unemployment is the best gov stimulus and best job creator we got. More money flowing through the economy creates jobs esp for small business. He said as far as the 99ers go he said we definetly need help because the numbers show the job market is still tough. But I totally agree with him having UE money flow through the econ is the best thing for this economy now we get our UE checks and its usually right off to the local store to buy food in.

What are the odds of them allowing us to default or of Washington fixing the mess they created?
Re: 2 Million 99ers Scream Hard Recovery For the Jobless
UE is ABSOLUTELY stimulating for the economy. Every dollar in Unemployment benefits actually equals TWO DOLLARS put back into the economy. I honestly do not understand how there is almost no talk of a 99er extension at the same time that Unemployment just keeps going up. and look at all the companies in the last 2 weeks that announced even more layoffs. Things are not good, NOT GOOD AT ALL!!!!!!! I sincerely hope H.R. 589 gets off the ground soon. I did notice that 2 congressmen, including my own, just signed onto the bill last week. Maybe that's a positive sign!?!?!?!?

It should be included in any debt ceiling negotiations.
Re: 2 Million 99ers Scream Hard Recovery For the Jobless
My guess is that they will reach some sort of agreement, probably short-term for now. Whether this will be sufficient to keep Moody's (American-turned-global organization) from downgrading it's own country is yet to be seen.

They are playing again. Short term increase will look bad. They will settle this without any game playing because they play until they almost fall off the cliff. This is a big freaking game to them. In the end do the Republicans really want the US to default, nah, they would look to bad, so not in our lifetime. I hate both parties the the Republicans are a-holes. Dazed as always.

They will never add the 99'ers back into the unemployment numbers, just think how that would negatively impact Wall St. Stock market crash? Fear and panic? Though it would be great for people to receive additional help from the government, it is just not an option that will ever happen.

Sadly i totally agree with Steveninspokane. 99ers are the lost tribe of the US and we're on our own. There aint no help coming from the govt.

It's simply because they know that the house would never pass it no matter what. If it is paid for there would be a possibility but other wise no.
They could and should add it to the debt ceiling bill but both sides know it has to be passed so they can't exactly take that past the wall. The republicans know that the democrats won't let the country default.
Maybe I am just in a negative mood today, I don't know.

Lendme, I think we're all in a negative mood lately.
And it's fully justified by circumstances.

Re: 2 Million 99ers Scream Hard Recovery For the Jobless
I am sure that the 99ers are never going to receive any further help. However, I believe that it is the governments responsibility to help us until the jobs are back. I know it will never happen. But I did not ask to have this econ situation happen. Nor did I want to spend every dime I had in savings just to survive. Not to mention the one 401k account I did have.
The repubs and the dems are going to keep right on fighting. This country will default on 8/2 and then maybe all will see that we have been in a depression all along!!!!!

Re: 2 Million 99ers Scream Hard Recovery For the Jobless
One big reason 99er's isn't going to receive more help is because we are entering into another stage of deeper unemployment and its going to get progressively worse until after 2012 elections!! TRUST WHAT I AM SAYING!
Employers aren't going to hire with SO MUCH uncertainty in this global economy. Also unsure of the debt argument and possible effects of higher taxes. This country is in BIG trouble!Even though no president would admit it approaching the next year elections! MY TAKE !!!

Plus if the 99ers get help that would reflect the true UE numbers. Would also bring back Tier 4 and Hub as well?? I dont think the 99ers will ever get help. At one time I really thought so but lost all hope.

Re: 2 Million 99ers Scream Hard Recovery For the Jobless
I think we're all doomed, DOOMED. As far as I'm concerned all those people in government jobs should be the ones unemployed not us. You do realize AIG shouldn't even exist anymore, they would've been wiped out without bailouts and they don't' deserve our help.

Re: 2 Million 99ers Scream Hard Recovery For the Jobless
Many Post Offices are going to close. Many government workers are loosing their jobs. Many Police Officer, Fireman, Teachers, etc. are the 99ers. If you meant the Senators and Congressmen, then your right. Actually they only work Part Time.
AIG and other Banks should never been allowed to pay bonuses. Some of them deserved to fail. They are letting us fail and starve.
