After 2.5 years I HAVE A JOB!!!
First topic message reminder :
Just wanted to share some news with you all. After being out of work since January 2009 I finally have a job. Not my "dream" job by any means but considering I just turned a 99er this couldnt of come at a better time.
There is also room for advancement within the company.
To those who think there is no hope, DONT GIVE UP!
Unfortunately this also means my time here on the forum will be limited to evenings and weekends.

Well, it felt kinda chintzy, like redoing the "birthday" icing on a cake. But I did it just for you, workin' guy! Smooch!
I downloaded the picture to use for the next person who gets a JOB! Hope that isn't copyright infringement!

Jobless_in_Ma wrote:Thanks everyone. Now to transition to a working person. This job is just a "job" at this point, Im literally going to be making 60% less than what I was while working and no bennies etc, but it gets me some income seeing as Im a new 99er now and gets my foot in the door. The hiring manager was pretty confident they will move me up the ladder as things open up.
What crazy times we live in. Ill be making about what I made 15 years ago. Had I not been living back with family I would still not be able to afford a place on this.
Congratulations!!! This is still great news, you have your foot in the door. Here is to hoping you are promoted quickly and start receiving the benefits too! Best wishes for your future and may it be bright once more. I know for many of us in that search for a job, that it usually comes w/ low wages compared to what we once made, and oftentimes no benefits, making it very difficult to support ourselves.

Aside from a 60% paycut and not being anything even similar to what Ive done before. it is a JOB. Thats about all I can say about it. All that considered, I am grateful to have it though.

Day 2 under my ropes. Today I actually got to do my actual "job".
I must say the transition for me has been really smooth, much smoother than I expected. I think its only because I know a lot of folks that work there and my Mother actually got me the job there and she is well liked.
They all know about my situation and what my history was when times were good. They all understand the unemployment situation in this country as they are on reduced hrs now too. Im only 34hrs a week right now.

Doing very well here! Still hanging on as far as work goes, overtime is over and the contractor I'm working for has picked up a few little jobs at the plant. That's the problem with construction work, you work yourself out of a job everyday,LOL!!! The possibility of a transfer to another plant and 5 to 6 months(at least) more work is becoming more and more for certain each day! Fingers crossed! Glad to hear your adjustment back to the working world is going smoothly! You and everyone else here will remain in my prayers!!Jobless_in_Ma wrote:Thanks Sportsnut for the kind words, its good to see you around. Hope things are well.

Wonderful news - gonna have to change that username now
I haven't posted in a while, but I've been keeping up with the news on this wonderful site. I truly think this site saved me when I was at my lowest - thank god for all of you!!!!
It's still really rough out here - I've been working for about 10 months - I travel home every weekend since the job is 300 miles away - one way. I keep trying to find something at home, but like I said - it's still really rough out here.
I just thank my lucky stars I have a job!!!! And you do too!!!!
