Do the Unemployed Face More Discrimination Than African-Americans?
According to a recent report on this very site, a number of companies have begun advertising job openings that specify that currently unemployed people will not be considered for the position. Though it sounds counterintuitive to most of us to exclude those who need jobs and want them from the opportunity to even compete for one (particularly as our country still struggles to recover from one of the worst economic downturns in recent memory which has rendered countless Americans newly unemployed), there are plenty of defenders of the practice.

We are the forgotten Leppers of Society. Its the easy way out for America to justify the economic mess we are in. Of course they wont blame Wall Street, the govt bail outs, and the outsourcing to India and China. Because that could mean blaming themselves in many cases. So now we just chalk up the unemployed folks as lazy, unmotivated. To an extent, if you were NOT lazy and unmotivated (like me) before this protracted layoff, having to sit like this for a year now will make you that way. Kind of like, why bother working hard??

Wow, companies very rarely lay off their top producers. Not true, some higher pay groups were the first to go, I wasn't that high, but I was last one hired.
If someone suggests that the unemployed are lazy or drug addicts I'm going ot ask them to provide me with statistics, scientific proof to back up their claim or accuse of them or talking out of their arse.

I think being over 50 and unemployed is probably the group being hit hardest by discriminatory hiring practices, in the current business environment.
