URGENT HELP

Hey everyone I just started collecting about 2 months ago. I got a letter in the mail stating I had to go to a job seminiar in massachusetts about 3 weeks ago but since ive been back and forth from my house in Maine my mom only told me about it beginning of this week. All the notifications goes to my moms house, I was staying with her until I moved
back to my house in Maine last week since i cannot afford rent and a house now. I had my house rented but tenants lease ended
and they moved out.. I got another letter saying i needed to schedule one by the 11th or they might terminiate my benefits.
Should I call them and tell them I moved to maine? If i do this will i lose my benefits?

If you moved to Maine then you will have an out of state claim and guidelines are a lil different for out of state claims. I would notify them of this ASAP.

So that means ill be waiting for a payment for a while? or will it still be through MA? I looked online and some places said since you have already started collecting through ma you would leave it and follow the guidelines but im not going to travel 4 hours for a job seminar. Have you attended one of these? what is it like?

Im not sure on the details but I never received any letters from MA UI to go to a job seminar although Ive been to quite a few.

This is not a requirement to remain eligible for UI benefits. Are you sure they dont mean the Unemployment information session that is required? Where you meet with a rep from Ma UI and they conduct a class on how the program works?

My husband was never required to attend a job seminar when he was collecting benefits. Definitely call them and explain that you had no choice but to move and ask about it.

You will not lose your EB as long as both states are triggered to pay EB and as long as both states are paying EB. If the state you moved to is not paying EB you will get two weeks and then be cut off.

IT says I have to attend a job center or they will cut me off. So I guess i should call and tell them i moved?

Career Center Seminar Attendance: You will be asked to attend a mandatory Career Center Seminar at a Massachusetts Career Center near you to assist you with your re-employment efforts. Your attendance at the seminar is part of your unemployment insurance work search activity.

I live in NJ now but originally worked and lived in PA. I had no trouble changing my address and collecting my benefits from PA as that is the state where I was employed and paid my taxes as did my employer.

I was required to attend the Career Center Seminar. I would call them and explain your situation, I would also have them change your address, if you are required to attend, possibly you could stay with your Mom for the night. I wouldn't risk losing the benefits for any reason, those of us without them can tell you how difficult it is. They are very reasonable, they may require you to attend or they may set something up by mail for you. Generally it's about an hour, they have someone there review resumes and make suggestions on how to get a better bang for your buck on your resume and give you some areas to search that you may not have looked into. They also have some resources on re-training and education although most states don't have the funding anymore. Good luck, but please, call and talk to them.

Well I have two kids I cannot loose my benefits.. They said no more extension to go so I have to call tomorrow and explain to them why i never set it up and see what I can do. 3/11 is the deadline.

I called. I'm not mandatory to go. I just have to call ME unemployment to file a IB1 to change my address through maine

What a relief!

In Ohio I was required to attend one too. However, I was scheduled for total knee replacement surgery. I was able to reschedule at a different time if you call. After I was healed, I could then collect UI again, then go to meeting.

Try to either reschedule if possible. It is possible they might say your excused due to distance and out of state.
