"Contact our Office within 96 hours"
wow
I still have 8 weeks left of Unemployment Benefits. I called in this morning to file over the telephone and the automated recording tells me that it appears that I may have received a payment from an employer and to Contact our Office within 96 hours or benefits will end.
Payment from an employer? Okay, I haven't been employed in months, I have not received any payment, I did not press the wrong key on the telephone keypad.
It is 2014, the first claim of the year and suddenly! there is a problem with my claim. How many other people will suddenly have problems with their claims? Maybe it is just a glitch that will get resolved "shortly". In the meantime, I am the one who has to be delayed payment.
You follow the rules, you think you're doing all the right things but when the man in charge decides it isn't working out to his benefit, so he changes the rules.
What? You don't like it?! Well who the heck do you think you are? You only get what we say you get comrade. Welcome to Russia.

Yeah, just stay on top of it, and the problem will be resolved. Make sure you get through to a human being, who knows what he or she is doing.

Ah-Ha!
Okay, a quick follow-up. I spent way too long dialing phone number after phone number trying to talk to a human being. I'm sure you all know the drill. I started right before 8 o'clock.... anyway, by 11:30 in the morning I was digging through all of my original Unemployment paperwork and found a direct phone number to a guy at the Unemployment office. (I could hear the angels singing!)
Of course I got his voice mail but at least I got through. AND!! He called back! He said there was a "glitch" in the system. (Uh-huh, sure.)
Well, you know I kissed his fanny (Thanked him for calling, etc) because he literally is standing between me and whether I buy gas or not this week. I did not ask how many others were effected by this "glitch". How many others won't be able to get through within 96 hours and will automatically be dumped off of unemployment because of a "glitch".
Man, I hope I hear back from one of the two interviews I had last week. Both part time but come on... this is too much for me. I'm getting too old for this game.
Oh, and PS: My friend in California just got back from a week long vacation over the holidays to see his family, got back to work yesterday and was handed a pink slip. He was Fired. Worked there 2 years, never once written up. His new boss has been there 3 months and saw that he was complimented by the Big Boss, she felt threatened. She said he was disrespectful to her so she fired him. They didn't even give him his last paycheck. (yet)

Glad things worked out for you. Maybe it's a turning point for you.
Too bad about your friend. I'm surprised the Big Boss didn't step in to save your friend. Politics rearing it's ugly head again!
