ALL THE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE; WHERE DO THEY ALL BELONG?
I'm afraid its time all for us; as a civilization at large, to decide
exactly what we are going to do, going forward, with all those persons, such as myself,
who lost their jobs during The Great Recession and could not find another;
(no matter how hard we tried…)
A great number of us, myself included, because of our age, medical, and employment histories,
possessed the criteria to qualify us for The Social Security Disability Insurance (S.S.D.I.) Program,
including the Medicare or Medicaid Health Insurance Plans….
Others, not " fortunate " enough to be eligible for S.S.D.I., had to turn to whatever resources they could
find; financial as well as health care; once their ninety-nine weeks of Extended Unemployment Insurance Benefits were
depleted…
If one turns to history in order to find a solution to our current unemployment dilemma, the choices offered are
neither pleasant nor hopeful…
In ancient/medieval times, if someone could not a method to support and/or sustain him/herself and their dependents,
they all (simply) perished; from lack of basic survival resources...
In more recent times, if a society found itself overburdened by citizenry that it believed to be a drain on its overall
wherewithal, thereby jeopardizing its future expectations of survival; it would adopt the " necessary for the
good of the Majority " policy of " expediting " this groups' departure from this life on Earth to that of The Great Beyond…
If one turns to a Science Fiction motion picture set in the not-so-far-off year of 2022, " Soylant Green " (MGM Studios/1973) a third, although unpleasant, alternative can be found; whereby this future world community of over forty million souls offers anyone who wishes to no longer remain a member of this greatly excessively encumbered community the option of committing government assisted/sanctioned (painless) self termination; thereby reliving both the individual and the world he once lived in from being a constant, chronic drain on its precious, dwindling reserves…( A solution that would be completely acceptable to me if offered…)
However, since we all now live on a modern, sophisticated earth were the all three of the aforementioned potential options are neither plausible or feasible (at least not as of yet), we all must make every attempt humanly possible, including requesting Divine Intervention, in order to find a long term, positive turn out for our vast numbers of unemployed…or else we might find that the year 2022 is much closer than we realize (!)

Re: ALL THE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE; WHERE DO THEY ALL BELONG?
First, welcome to this forum.
Yeah, things have never been this bleak in America, EVER! Our resources are dwindling, countries who control our vital resources (oil and money) want us dead, we're in the crosshairs of terrorist groups who are planning their next big attack on us as we speak, we're in the longest and deepest economic collapse since the Great Depression, and our society and congress are deeply divided by idiology and can't agree on anything.
I really don't know how our government, with all its collective wisdom and intelligence is going to pull us out of this. Perhaps, if we can somehow come together as a nation and come up with solutions we all can agree upon, we MAY have a chance.

Re: ALL THE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE; WHERE DO THEY ALL BELONG?
Where do all the unemployed people belong? Is it time for civilization at large or the government(s) to decide what to do with people who no longer can find work?
Families all around the world are being impoverished and torn apart by financial insecurity and lack of basic survival resources caused by the unemployment crisis. Yet, the powers that be have found other matters that allow them to ignore the plight of the unemployed who are becoming malnourished, homeless, and in need of medical treatment.
The game is now played in a way so that jobs that were done in the U.S.A. were shipped overseas while overseas workers are imported to do jobs here. Millions of well-qualified American citizens graduate each year only to be saddled with loan debt and few prospects for good jobs. Does the solution to this problem involve those over a certain age jump into the Soylent Green vat to make opportunities and food for the up and coming? Why do other nations thrive and take care of their people while the U.S.A. ignores the unemployed and our political leaders do what they can to further punish the needy? They battle to cut unemployment benefits, healthcare, and food stamps. They stop job programs and infrastructure reconstruction programs.
In my opinion it will require leaders who come from the ranks of the unemployed to contribute to the solution of these problems. It will take an organized effort to make a difference. It will take much more than complaining among ourselves to get this turned around.
Is it time to ask for Divine Intervention to save us? Is it time for the nation to come together and come up with solutions we can all agree upon? Those events would be termed miracles.
We need an organization and leaders who can change the situation around. But who is standing opposed to this effort. The naysayers among us have won. They have defeated any effort that has come up to organize the unemployed. They argue that the unemployed have no money, no voice, no will, and no organization. They argue that the unemployed should have no leaders and that any form of organization is communistic, socialistic, or religious. When the unemployed hear those arguments they stop their bellyaching and return to the shadows to commiserate with the other souls in dire straits. It is time however, for leaders to come forward and stand for the rights of the unemployed. Perhaps we could pass the hat or make other efforts that could help get us out of this mess. Hoping for divine or government intervention is not going to cut it. The other alternative is the vat of Soylent Green.

Re: ALL THE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE; WHERE DO THEY ALL BELONG?
we have had decades of increased productivity, more efficient uses of resources, etc., etc. The logical outcome is more output with less people needed to produce it.
We have new 3d printer technology that in 20-30 years time may be able to produce many things even MORE cheaply. What then?
Our system is based on each individual making the BEST economic choices for their own benefit.
This system ignores emotionaly based choices which of course is what advertising is targeted at.
If we as a people are NOT at the point yet, we will be, it seems to be the GOAL.

Re: ALL THE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE; WHERE DO THEY ALL BELONG?
Congress and government officials/leaders don't have time to address any of the problems this country faces. They are too busy raising funds for their re-election, or paving the way for their after-government careers through the revolving door. Until we can find a way to destroy these practices, the deterioration will continue. Right now, we don't have any power and the powerful aren't going to budge one inch. The voters of this nation need to come together and agree on a short list of basic demands and promise to vote out every congressperson that votes against them. We need to threaten their self-preservation because they have threatened ours.

Or they simply stopped caring.

They stopped caring because that doesn't require any thought or work, or the possibility of casting a vote that their bosses don't approve.

Re: ALL THE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE; WHERE DO THEY ALL BELONG?
Have you considered consulting an investment counselor? That could help your long term position
How about a staffing agency?
Have you tried networking?
Are you in college, learning new skills and getting an education?
You may have to start back at the bottom, like say a WalMart greeter or Mcdonalds cook.
