Study: Job Outlook In RI One Of The Bleakest in The Country
A study published in the Wall Street Journal Tuesday shows the job outlook in the Ocean State is one of the bleakest in the country, and it is not going to improve anytime soon.
Experts took a hard look at the numbers and predicted how long it will take for each state to get the jobs back it had before the recession. Their prediction for Rhode Island is year 2017 or longer. There are only two other states in as bad of shape as Rhode Island - Michigan and Rhode Island.
State leaders agree it is a growing problem.
"It's a concern," State Treasurer Gina Raimondo said. "We are at 11% unemployment. We need to do more."
University of Rhode Island Economist Len Lardaro wants less talk and more action. He says he is not surprised Rhode Island is at the bottom of the job list, because its leaders have never directly addressed how to fix it, and now the solution is not so paint by number.

Ugh, 2017 is a long ways off. I feel for our RI members. Id say cross the border to MA but were not much better here despite the supposed unemployment rate.

I wish I knew where all the jobs in MA were that brought the state's ue rate down so much! I continue to look for and apply to jobs there, as well as CT and NH. NOTHING!!Jobless_in_Ma wrote:Ugh, 2017 is a long ways off. I feel for our RI members. Id say cross the border to MA but were not much better here despite the supposed unemployment rate.

It's hogwash! I have noticed hiring picking up around my neck of the woods here in mass but it's not much to speak of. More minimum wage dead end jobs. I saw on the news that some company is moving to RI bringing 50 90k a year jobs to the state. 50 whole jobs!! Wow, that aughtta fix it!! Anyway, I can't remember the name of the company but it was some sort of tech co, it was on abc news 6. They were saying how RI has not taken the jobs crisis very serious and should of started to deal with it back in 08. Now state government are panicking.
Desperate have you noticed unemployment is getting a lot more media attention in RI? Talking about it a lot in the news lately it seems. Hopefully they get the ball rolling very soon. CT is in really bad shape too isn't it?
I'll keep praying for you, I know you must be past being at your wits end. I hope things get better soon.

It is not a very good sign that the state will be laying off 60 - 100 workers at the Department of Labor and Training (unemployment center) because federal government cutbacks!
.......and those 50 90K jobs a company is supposed to be bringing here, it will be just like Curt Schillings 38 Studios that just defaulted on a 75 million dollar TAXPAYER guaranteed loan and laid off 300 employees. The employees will either be from that company, will be from out of state or recent grads of Brown, PC, etc.
Just heard that the rally on Wall St. yesterday was because it is expected that Fed Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke will be speaking to the Joint Economic Commision in about half an hour on another stimulus package. Several other counties have suggested the same thing.
IT BETTER NOT BE ANOTHER BAIL OUT OF BIG BUSINESS!!! They better start funding the ARRA and WIA programs again to help the average citizen!!!!!!!!

Yeah, they keep pushing the employment recovery back in RI and all over the country, ever since this so-called recession allegedly ended in June, 2009. Ha, what joke. If it weren't so sad (and infuriating), it would be funny! Meanwhile, notice how even the politicians still use the phrase during interviews, "This recession we're in"? Uh, I thought the recession was over? They know that we never recovered from "This DEPRESSION we're in".
Maybe, if we ever do recover from this, when it can finally be said, the government will admit that we went through a depression. My guess is, they don't want to admit it now in order to minimize civil unrest.

Curt Schilling (R) may of brought the redsox the championship but that's about all ges done other than run his mouth and promise the world.

» S&P cuts U.S. rating outlook - Wall St falls on U.S. outlook, global economy
» Moodys lowers US economic outlook through 2012
» If Congress would put people ahead of politics, the outlook for the unemployed might be better.
» Jobs outlook finally improving, but still shaky - Anticipated UE Rate: 8.8%!!!
» House GOP leaders seize on S&P 'negative' outlook to call for more cuts
