Hopeless
I have to wonder why human beings have lost the ability to feel compassion for others.
I too am facing a layoff, but with all the hostility against the unemployed, I'm not sure I even want to apply for unemployment. I feel like there is no hope for me.

Re: Hopeless
You deserve to have your benefits! How do you plan to survive financially with no benefits and no job? You paid into these benefits. They are yours. You should most definitely apply for them.

Hopeless,
Don't listen to people who are of no help. Come here for advice and support. Many know how you really feel. We have been through it. If you have problems many will give you their opinion. Remember your not alone!
There is no shame in applying for Unemployment benefits. Only jerks that don't know what is to go through it.

Broken72,
From what you posted, you are still working. If you don't like the word "unemployment" then use "not employed" when the time comes. It's not an infliction or character flaw. It's the way of the world right now.
Your employer paid for this coverage for you, per our government laws. Some governments don't even assist.
Broken72, you seem at odds with your situation and that's absolutely normal... and what we all went through. It's a transition that most of us had to make.
But most of us have reached the point where inside our head we say "just buck up" when we feel weakened. It helps. An ex-girlfriend used to tell me that when I would be indecisive.
You're within a group where most members have suffered years of no income. Fortunately for you, the country seems to be turning around and the short time you will not be employed will be a "blip".
Please don't be indecisive. Unless this is a temporary layoff, start planning what you'll do next, which of course isn't easy but you can take advantage of gov training as we've discussed previously.
Collect what's owed to you, start looking for that new start - which of course includes doing your own thing and getting away from the employer dependence.
What do you think?

Re: Hopeless
As others have mentioned, do not be too proud or ashamed to seek assistance. This is why these programs are in place.
I spent 2.5 years unemployed, I know ALL the emotions that one goes through as well as the hardships. Had I not had UI I would of been homeless.

Seems like there is very little to hope for anyway.

Re: Hopeless
You are preaching to the choir, broken72! Most of us here have been without benefits for one or two years. The only way the situation is hopeless, is if YOU give up hope.broken72 wrote:Seems like there is very little to hope for anyway.
Are you a student?
