Ok, So I landed a job after over 3 years
In the past 3 years of my unemployment I have lost my house, my car, my sister. I have filed for bankruptcy and have gotten 3 years older. For some reason I am not excited about getting this 6 month temp assignment, and with tomorrow as my first day to report I am feeling anxious and need an attitude adjustment quick! 6 months will fly by and I will still be in the same boat. What is wrong with me?

We all have a little PTSD from this. One good thing it could lead to a full time job and keeping the resume fresh gives you a big advantage. Hang in there trust me you are not alone.
It also is a great way to share your story and get the average person out there with a job insight to our situation.
Good luck and God Bless.

I know what you mean. I guess the only thing you can do is be positive. I agree with KTF, at least it's keeping your resume fresh and it can be a possible full time permanent position. Also don't stop the job search. Something recent looks a heck of a lot better than your past employment being 3 years ago.

Thanks for your kind words! I think your right about PTSD - I still feel shell shocked from all this. I am 57 years old and just don't seem to bounce back from lifes little challenges as I used to. But I'll give it my best.

Re: Ok, So I landed a job after over 3 years
Good luck with the new temp position. I know what you mean about the transition of being unemployed for almost three years to joining the ranks of the working people again.
I want (and need) a job desperately but the thought of living a real life scares me to death. I have been so out of touch for so long my self-esteem is zero.
Hopefully after a few days returning to the real world, you will overcome all your apprehensions of this new opportunity you have been given. Most employers these days hire temps and a lot have turned into permanent full time positions with benefits. All you need is your foot in the door.
We will be thinking of you tomorrow, and sending good vibes for a smooth transition into society.
Please check back in with us and share your story. Many of us, including myself, would love to hear a positive success story right now and how you were able to overcome your fears and go on with your life.
Your thoughts on this will surely ease a lot of anxiety and inspire many who have just about given up.
Wishing you all the best! Go get them!!!!

congrats on the temp job! Maybe it could turn into something permanent? If not, consider it a notch in your resume. A lot of us have big gaps in our resumes and it has a big impact during an interview. At least this temp job will help fill that gap for you and will be seen as positive in future interviews.
good luck and best wishes!

Congrats on the job. One positive outcome is having something recent on your resume. That should help a lot.

Congratulations! on getting a temp position. It can be just the beginning to something better and permanent. When you look for permanent positions now, you will have recent work experience that should be appealing to potential employers.
Apprehension is normal after being out of a job for 3 years. Just have faith in yourself. You were a valued employee when you were employed previously and there is no reason to believe that has changed. Get a good night's rest and be confident in that they hired you over so many other applicants - there must be something special about you that made you stand out.

It is understandable windeecity, you have been through alot the last 3 years. Give yourself time to get back into the swing of things. I hope this either goes full time for you or becomes the stepping stone to something even better. Best wishes, and keep us updated, we are rooting for you.
Best wishes for you too octyl! Fingers crossed all goes well.

Re: Ok, So I landed a job after over 3 years
Every time I read one of these stories about somebody landing a job...I get hopefull once again.
Maybe the shortterm 6mnth job will turn out to be a longer one if you do great work.
I just wish I had the drive to even go to an interview anymore. I feel like whats the use, I never get it.....I feel so broken down that I feel like a skidish dog with his tail between his legs...no wonder why I keep not getting the jobs, but this is just how I feel, I try to be upbeat but I think they can sense the fear....and to think I used to be a retail shark!
GOOD LUCK! Windeecity. We are all cheering for ya.

I agree with you on all points. I get hopeful when someone finds a job because there was always that little glimmer of hope that it could happen for me and it's reiterating that there are places hiring.
And I've missed out on a few interviews because I just couldn't bare to put all my energy and positivity into a job that I 99% may not get. The anxiety of waiting for a call that never came. I used to be a positive, upbeat person until I became employed long term.

Re: Ok, So I landed a job after over 3 years
Well....my first day update:
Waited for 20 minutes at the receptionist for someone to come and take me to wherever a new temp hire goes. They were not prepared for me at all and I felt very out of place, I had no desk or chair. I stood 4 1/2 hours watching over the girls shoulder while she worked. The other few hours I was able to sit since some of the people went to lunch and I used their chair to sit down. At 10:30am they did remember to have me clock in, only to find out that the time clock did not work. So who knows if I will get paid - LOL
They promised to get me a desk and chair and a computer tomorrow, if not my feet can't handle standing another day but I will get through it. So all in all my first day sucked. Sorry to sound like this but I am so exhausted.

I hope tomorrow get better for you. It is always awkward the first day on a new job, but, wow, I have to give you credit! After not working for three years and going through that today, I think I would have broken down in tears and ran out!
Hang in there, hopefully better days are coming! Thanks for checking in!

LOL oh my goodness the thought ran across my head at lunch just to drive out of the parking lot. But I am beyond broke and with 5.45 in my checking I guess I will stand on hot coals if they want me to!

Re: Ok, So I landed a job after over 3 years
Congrats and thanks for posting. The first day may have been a test to see if you would bolt out the door.
Things were looking like they were going to pick up around here. And not just the same jobs they advertise but never get filled(You all know those). Then gas jump .30 & I thought #$@^!
Your news is real boost for a lot of us.

Re: Ok, So I landed a job after over 3 years
Well I'm back to being unemployed again. I worked a little over 6months on a temp assignment at a solar manufacturing facility and was told today that my last day is Friday. Along with that, they are laying off another 150 people from the manufacturing side and moving production to Oregon. The temps are the first to go to make room for the real employee's. So....I wonder how much hassle the EDD will be again to deal with. I had about 12 weeks left on the last Tier so am wondering if I am eligible for a new claim.

Re: Ok, So I landed a job after over 3 years
So sorry to hear that. Hopefully, your recent work experience will make it a little bit easier to find something else. I have been hearing so many stories like this recently.
You worked over six months, you should be eligible for a new claim. Call the OR UI office as soon as possible. At least you will get the initial 26 weeks in case EUC08 isn't reauthorized by the end of the year.

Thank you for the encouraging words! I must say that I felt like I was coming back home when I logged in. No one understands this emotional unemployment junk the way we all do here.
