UPDATE MSNBC: 2 month temp. deal reached -Congress leaders hope deal near on gov’t shutdown
http://news.bostonherald.com/news/us_politics/view/20111215congress_leaders_hope_deal_near_on_govt_shutdown/srvc=home&position=recent
"We’re confident, optimistic we’ll be able to resolve both on a bipartisan basis," said McConnell, referring to one bill that would renew the payroll tax cut and jobless benefits, and a separate spending measure that would keep federal agencies open.
President Barack Obama applied pressure of his own, saying Congress "should not and cannot" go home until it had resolved the issues.
"There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to extend these items, the payroll tax cut, u.i. before holidays," he said, using the abbreviation for unemployment insurance

Notoriously waiting till Last minute, as if the stress level isn't high enough for unemployed folks.

I hate politicians. I thought I was good at procrastinating!

Seems that it's more game playing and head twisting than procrastinating... The Republicans are a bunch of bullies!

I don't discriminate, both parties have their share of bullies. But yes, Game Playing, Finger Pointing and a bit of procrastination are all a sad state of affairs for the so called "leadership".

Breaking news on the Ed Show:
Deal will be reached for a two month extension to prevent a government shutdown, payroll tax extension and unemployment extensions.
We'll be right back here in a few weeks fighting to have ui extended again - most of us saw this last year.

Good, now they will have more time to negotiate instead of caving due to time constraints. I hope they don't wait the whole 2 months, though.....even though they probably will.

This happened twice in 2010. Both times, benefits lapsed for approximately 6 weeks before they extended them through 2011 just before the holidays at the end of the year.
