Fox's John Stossel Just Doesn't Get It!
Even after all that has happened the mindset of some of these people is shocking. They're totally clueless. Let him get out here and try to find work!

Fear of the unknown is a really bad thing. When you know of no one personally going through this, it's easy to bury your head in the sand and pretend it will go away or doesn't exist.
Fact: Families can't survive on minimum wage jobs or even $10.00 an hour jobs, which some employers feel is really a fair wage.
Fact: After being on unemployment for even three months, people really have a struggle to keep up with bills and almost never break even.
Fact: Skills don't die when you are unemployed. No one accepts a new position and doesn't need training, on the job, which is a responsibility of the employer.
Fact: 15 Hours a week will make someone think about accepting the position, because, as we all know right now, if you have to feed a family and are lucky enough to get food assistance through your state, they will take it away if you work even part time. No parent will see a child starve, even if it means staying on food stamps, unless a job will help to feed, house and clothe their families. Something they forget.
Fact: of the almost 3 million jobs created, 83% were retail/service positions paying between mimimum wage and $15/hr. 46% were parttime or seasonal. vs. over 25 million laid off since 2008. John S. needs to do the math, fuzzy or any other kind, the numbers don't add up.

Is this a new show on tonight? He pulled the same thing within the last year over age discrimination. This could be a prior program.
He does not get it. Yes an employer can terminate for no reason. However, they can't target you because of age! The problem is many older workers are being replaced by temporary workers. Earning far less and with no benefits. This why you need unions!
The Department of Labor is for employers not employees in many situations.

John Stossel used to be on 20/20 for a long time. When he was reporter for them, he was compassionate and sympathetic. Guess he was fired or let go, or couldn't negotiate his contract. Maybe he's bitter about that.

I equate Mr. Stossel with many others who have gone before him, he's a chameleon, who ever he is currently working for, that's what he stands for. Next, he'll be doing E.T. and covering Dancing with the Stars.

I don't ever remember him being anything of the sort--in fact, I've considered him a real Stosshole for many, many years.

He was sarcastic and defiant but compassionate towards people.

My recollection is that he's always had a very conservative slant, which I don't usually associate with compassion. You could say a lot about him, but that's not the adjective that would occur to me is all I'm saying.

Wow... that clip is garbage. Almost funny when the one guy speaks saying how younger are better, he sounds and looks like a high school dropout.
Most older people are quite literate with computers, it is a false assumption that only the very young are able to use computers.

I agree wausauguy, just looking back over my 38 years working, graduated high school when we only got to use the electric typewriters once a month, otherwise it was manual. When I first worked, typewriters, handwritten acctg, adding machines, telex machines (but only for emergency information, never orders) and now, we've gone through 38 years and are using pc's and laptops. The first computer we all learned on at Westinghouse had a papertape, was the size of an upright piano and you had to keep shifting from figs# to alpha. No fax machines, no collated copies, no programs to do payroll. So to say we can't learn or keep current, well, I think most of us 45 and up would disagree, we learned it all on the job and went from pens and pencils to technology. Never again will this happen, we went from nothing to something and then something better and better and so on. So, you are correct, garbage is what that is. And, all members, take a minute and be proud of what you have learned and what you have accomplished with on the job training and self-teaching.

The only problem with the younger set are they quit jobs every six months, call in sick from hangovers --not all--and are quite late frequently from my past experience and yeah even myself when i was that age.
And surprising Stossel himself is way to old for tv reporting, they usually get rid of you when someone younger and better looking comes along.

It is shameful that people over 40 are considered disposable. I know those over 40 have great experience and dependability but it seems that the HUMAN RESOURCES industry doesn't see it that way.

Re: Fox's John Stossel Just Doesn't Get It!
Do you know why the military prefers 18 year olds over 35 year olds? Try to tell a division of 35 year olds to charge up and take a hill. They will tell you to go f*** yourself! It's easy to pump up 18 year olds. Wisdom comes with age. They know this, they have seen it. Wars are fought over money for that 1%.

I agree the older soldiers would have not been the first ones up the hill. That is how they became 35 years old.

Re: Fox's John Stossel Just Doesn't Get It!
Tristen,
My father when he was 18, fought in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. Many young lives were wasted, they were expected to lose. My father survived, but almost lost his feet, because they were frozen. The ones that survived developed an attitude if you get shot your stupid.
I appreciate the veterans for fighting the Iraq War. They deserve good jobs and education. The problem was your enemy was called Cheney.
Veterans have the highest Unemployment and are not paid Unemployment Insurance, thanks to Reagan. John Stossel has slapped the veterans in the face.

Re: Fox's John Stossel Just Doesn't Get It!
Thank your father for me that was a real fight. But that was not your comment or argument; the older guys are smart enough to fight. In fact more 22-35 year olds are wounded and awarded medals then the 18yr olds.
Why? Because the older guys are more experienced, dependable and reliable.
And FYI all the guys that served during Carter and Clinton talk about how poorly trained and equipped they were and well trained and equipped they were under Repubs which is why the Repubs get broad support in the military; the guy that helps me win and protect me is my friend, the later an enemy.

Stossel is 64, time to replace his old, ugly ass! At about 1/10 of his bloated salary!
I've always wanted to punch him in the face!

Too funny...
He has gotten more and more arrogant as he got older. But isn't that the same for so many people who make money blabbering.
