Duration of unemployment
Re: How long have you been unemployed?
First time laid-off February 2007 after 17 years of service. Found a new job in July 2007, then laid-off November 2008. Been a 99er since October 2010, with only six responses/interviews to the 1,000's of resumes sent out.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
Since December 2007. Before then I never thought it could happen to me. After all I thought I was a great employee, always did what was expected, and had so many skills. Plus add in that I have a masters and speak Spanish so I thought places would hire me. Nope and I know now that being unemployed long as I have that it's affecting me. In fact recently I sent a resume to an employer and they were very interested and wanted to see dates of employment. I sent that back and yep you guessed it no response. Luckily I lie and claim I do freelance work (and have a website) but just want to work fulltime.
Now people are judging me because of this. Recently on the Monster forum another poster attacked me saying I must not be very good if I am still unemployed. I get this from many people and I am sick of it. If someone sends me another minimum wage job I will scream.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
It will be three years in June for me. I have been a 99er since last May.
It does scare me terribly, but I refuse to give in or give up. I will find a good job, you all will find good jobs and it will be because we made that happen.
Very proud to be in your company, just not under these circumstances.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
Since 2004, with many job gaps, having worked many Contract Assignments. I don't care to add it up. From 1 day to 6 months. I am short 10 weeks to restart my claim, only have 10 weeks. You need 20 in my state.
Considering what happened in Japan, many of us are still blessed.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
TR11005 I agree with your point about Japan. When I get overly down about unemployment I remind myself that while I may have some challenges and too many disappointments to contend with, I still have much to be thankful for.
I have been unemployed for well over 2 years now, since the end of March 2009. I have worked temporary projects and also woked part-time for a business that closed for good Dec 31, 2010 since then. Prior to losing my job I worked for 15 years at one employer, 10 at another and six at my last full-time job. I never collected a single unemployment check until this downturn. I have learned alot, and have been humbled.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
Since November, 2009. I have lived on part time & temporary jobs for a number of years, in states where there was no other work to be had. I moved to the Twin Cities in 2007 in search of work, and because there is decent public transportation and a reasonable cost of living. I was able to get temporary work, and then the job I was laid off from. Now there aren't any temp jobs, and nothing in site.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
I was for 2 1/2 years and just started working 2 weeks ago. I finally had to (got evicted) move to another area where there are more opportunities. I should have moved way sooner but, I just kept holding out hope that someone around there would hire me and that I could keep living there and plus, I didn't want to have to go and stay with relatives that don't really have room for me like I have had to now.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
Since June of 2008. Too long and nothing in site. Everything is gone. Furniture, clothes, jewelry, momentos, just to pay the bills. I am lucky to have people who care or I don't know where I would be.
Tomoko, welcome to the forum, I cannot tell you how sorry I am for your losses either.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
I am disabled but my husband has not had a normal job since 2007. He does have freelance work [underemployed], so is working but we have accepted that life will probably mean very diminished income for the rest of it, and now with Obama and our sold out govt trying to do away with social security or cutting it to meainglessness, Ill be turning to God to keep me afloat. I am even considering selling possessions now in preparation.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
September of 2008. My unemployment ran out on 7/10/11. I have a few dollars that I saved, I can live for the next month. After that maybe the shelter if they have room. No hope.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
Jan of 2009. So much has happened since then - health issues, family death, ending of significant relationships, no friendships, neighbor from hell moving in, hating where I live but slightly agoraphobic so can't go too far from home (or I think I'd relocate but no guarantees on that as my resume is ruined). I have a driving phobia which would also make it very tough to move elsewhere. I've really turned into a mental health problem the past several years.

Wish that to be the case Falcon. However, got the feeling many are at the end of their line. Either lost internet, or are just too depressed to post anymore. Prayers for ALL the unemployed.

Re: How long have you been unemployed?
I always find it comforting to talk. I lost everything I had seeing it all be washed away by tsunami. I won't let depression get me down over that. The hard part to me is the culture shock living in the US
