Making Monster work for you
When I was unemployed for two years starting in 2000 I attended a seminar hosted by Monster employees. Their tips have proven invaluable to me over the years, as most of my jobs now come from Monster (eight in the past 10 years).
1. Monster is just a big search engine where newer results filter to the top. Update your Monster profile once a week. Making small changes, like correcting typos, is enough to reset the date on your profile.
2. Load your resume with relevant search terms. The best way to do this in the current Monster system is to add the "Interests and Hobbies" option to your profile. Load it with any term relevant to your industry, skills and experience.
I have found that calls come in waves. If you ever get two or more calls for the same position, don't try to pit one recruiter over another - you will be dropped altogether.
Monster has saved me so many times! Good luck!
