Joining the Military?
I was wondering if anyone has joined or considered joining the military.
I was looking into it, only to find out they discriminate against age there as well. It seems that unless you're a DR or have had previous military experience, the Air Force will not let you join if you're past the age of 35.
Being 36, it isn't really my first choice to join the service, but there really isn't any options to provide for my family.
I looked at the Army and their age limit is a little hire, however, it seems that regardless of your job they can switch you to infantry any time. Being a father of 4 kids and married it makes that a difficult decision to make.
Anyways, it had me thinking if anyone other 99ers have thought about it or made the choice to join?

You can join the Army at 36 andif they won't take you thereis always the reserve or the guard and then you can go fully active. I would beg for you to find a different path, if you are sent overseas in combat you will never be the same and could still lose your family. I served in the Marines and did 2 tours in Iraq and it nearly cost me my family (I missed out on a lot)...

Re: Joining the Military?
I was talked into considering the army reserve in 2002 but I decided against it. Now, I would do it if I had no other option I guess. I would try the national guard first. It only takes one weekend a month and they pay you. These days thought you might go straight whatever middle east hellhole. If you have a technical skill you could probably avoid combat.
I am not really a "yes sir, no sir" kind of guy and I don't take poo off people much so the army isn't for me. I would be in a brig or discharged before basic was over.

And that's really the thing, I don't want to be shipped to some place in the Middle East, I don't really want to be shipped anywhere. I mean, I have no problem dying for my country, I just want to do it on American soil, ya know. Maybe I will look at the National Guard, are they a branch of the Army or their own identity?

Army and own identity (they are the states military, their militia contrary to what the gun toting far right says). There is always the Coast Guard? I almost forgot thank you SnT
